From the Principal.... Matt Clark
Good afternoon and TGIF, Thompson parents and guardians! What an incredible week it’s been here at TMS. After all the excitement packed into the last five days, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit tired. Between our Halloween celebrations, the Monster Bash, and some unseasonably warm weather, it felt like we crammed an entire month’s worth of fun into one week.
I can’t thank our amazing PTO and volunteers enough for their tremendous work in decorating and organizing the second annual TMS Monster Bash. As you can see in the photos below, they truly outdid themselves—thank you!
This past week was an absolute blast, and I thought I’d let some pictures from the week do the rest of the talking.
One quick reminder: there’s no school on Tuesday for Election Day—don’t forget to vote!
Have a wonderful weekend and Roll Thunder!

TMS Gives Back - Join us in our Veterans FOOD DRIVE
We are partnering with Veterans Path to Hope by hosting a Food Drive. Their on-site food pantry currently services about 200 individual veterans a month and another 60 through a food pickup/delivery service. They are looking for some basic items to assist in supporting our local veterans, especially with the holiday and winter seasons approaching
- This is a competition between core teams. The team who brings in the most donations will win a PIZZA PARTY and will be recognized at our Veterans Day Assembly, November 11th
- The food drive will run from Monday, October 28th through Friday, November 8th.
- SEE BELOW for a list of items we are looking for!

Fun facts…
If you laid out all of the candy corn, end-to-end, that is sold around this time each year, more than 35 million pounds of kernels of candy corn (approximately 9 billion) would circle the moon 21 times. The size of one kernel of candy corn is approximately one inch long and a half an inch at the base. If the circumference of the moon is 35,813,648 feet, how many inches would circle the moon once? Twice? Three times? Hint: Convert feet to inches.
Now that is a lot of candy corn!
Athletics Update
Winter Sports are in full swing now with both sports, Boys Basketball & Wrestling, set to start their first competitions next week! Please visit our athletic website: https://schools.snap.app/tms to see the latest schedules and information for each sport. Registration is now closed for both.
Builder's Club
Builders Club we will have a meeting next Thursday, November 7 at 7:15 AM in classroom 237. On this day, veteran Lt. Colonel (retired) Mark Powell, of the St. Charles Kiwanis Club, will speak about being a veteran. Parents/Guardians, if you would like to join us to hear Lt. Colonel Powell speak, please do so. You will need to make sure you sign-in at the main office and wear a name tag the office provides. After Lt. Colonel Powell speaks, students will present him with the "Thank you..." notes that were written during the club meeting on Thursday, October 31.
In addition, Builders Club has launched a NexTrex: Recycle Beyond The Bag recycle program at Thompson. Nex Trex creates a variety of products such as composite decking, railing, outdoor furniture, and many other products by recycling the following: produce bags, plastic store bags, ice bags, Ziploc and other closeable bags, cereal box liners, case overwrap, bread bags, newspaper sleeves, dry cleaning bags, bubble wrap, and plastic ecommerce mailers. If you have any of these around your home and you want to get rid of them, bring them over to Thompson and place them into the NexTrex recycle receptacles (there are two) located outside of Thompson's main office.

StC Youth Commission Financial Grants
The City of St. Charles Youth Commission is reaching out to let students and student groups know that we offer financial grants to support kids working to improve the lives of kids in St. Charles! If you are working with young people on a project or you know of some young people working on something positive we'd like to hear about it. If funding is needed, maybe we can help!
The process to request a funding grant is pretty simple:
- We're interested in youth-designed, youth-driven plans, activities or projects that promote healthy lifestyles for the young people of our community. Creative interpretation of this goal is OK!
- Complete the application linked here. All instructions are included. It’s best if it’s in the student’s own words, but don't stress too much. It's really not about the perfection of the application, but it is definitely about the authenticity of the request. We feel the ideas of our young people have the best chance of resonating with other young people. It's also great if your group would like to come to the meeting when your request will be reviewed. The students can answer questions we may have.
- Applications received by the 15th of any month will be reviewed and considered for approval at our monthly meeting at the start of the next month. (FYI - No meetings in July or August).
Another thing...STC Youth Impact Award...Do you know of any D303 students making an especially significant positive contribution to the greater STC community this year? In the spring, we'll be recommending a person or persons for this special commendation at a City Council meeting. We're hoping some school personnel like you can help us identify potential candidates since you work with so many students every day. Let us know!
Please email any questions, applications, or recommendations to us at YC@stcharlesil.gov . A member of the Youth Commission will reach out to you once they receive it.
