MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID - YOUTH
M.H.F.A. for Youth is an eight hour evidence based training. Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, M.H.F.A. for Youth helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the M.H.F.A. for Youth course, you will learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns and strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help.
When you take this course, you learn how to apply the M.H.F.A. for Youth action plan in a variety of situations, including when someone is experiencing:
o Panic attacks
o Suicidal thoughts or behaviors
o Non-suicidal self-injury
o Acute psychosis (e.g., hallucinations or delusions)
o Overdose or withdrawal from alcohol or drug use
o Reaction to a traumatic event
