Dear Parents/Carers,
This week we have welcomed school leaders from neighbouring trust schools to monitor our delivery of the STAR MAT writing strategy. They were impressed with the way our children spoke in lessons – clearly and concisely. They also enjoyed hearing some of the Tier 2 vocabulary spoken with confidence across school. Tier 2 vocabulary are challenging, ambitious words that don’t usually crop up in day-to-day conversation but support children in accessing the world around them and avoiding a language gap. If you would like to know more you can visit https://bedrocklearning.org/literacy-blogs/tiered-vocabulary-in-the-classroom/
The children will be attending church on Thursday morning for the Harvest Festival. This will be led by Rev Paulie with poems and readings from the children. As always, we will be supporting Selby Food Bank so if you are able, please send your child with a packet or tin any day next week so they can be collected on Thursday.
On Thursday evening it was wonderful to invite prospective parents for new reception children in September 2025. I was able to tell them just how welcoming the school is and how supportive parents and carers are. The STAR EATS team prepared some free food for them to try so big thanks go to Helen and Jo in the kitchen for looking after us at this event.
Thank you for supporting us in our ‘Wear yellow for Mental Health’ day. It was like the school was filled with sunshine on a rainy day and it gave us the perfect opportunity to ensure that every child knew who they could talk to if they are struggling.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mel Walmsley
