Dear Coyote Families,

We had another GREAT WEEK at Canyon View Elementary School! All week, we got into the Jog-A-Thon spirit with dress-up days and morning messages from the Student Council focused on healthy habits. On Thursday, students enjoyed a special Indian music assembly, featuring world-renowned percussionist Mannargudi Easwaran! We learned that rythm is a universal human language! We ended the week with Jog-A-Thon! Thank you to the Team CV Foundation and the many helping hands that made this event a great success. Our students ran, walked, danced and smiled their way through the 'bubble-tastic' course.

Parent access to Trimester 2 student progress reports via Synergy ParentVUE was made available last Friday, March 15th. If you have not already done so, please click here for parent directions or here for the Spanish version to access your child’s report card.

1. Login and complete the digital registration packet via the online registration portal found here.
2. Review and complete any required forms located at the conclusion of the process. A packet is not considered finalized until this step is completed.

The Poway Unified transfer window is now open! Transfer requests for students who live within the Poway Unified boundaries and would like to attend a different Poway school other than their school of residence should be submitted online by visiting the PUSD webpage and clicking the “Transfers” link on the home page. This includes incoming siblings of current students. Please enroll your student at their school of residence when new student enrollment opens online on April 1, 2024. Transfer requests cannot be processed until the student is enrolled in their school of residence. The transfer window closes on March 31st at 5:00 pm. Come dressed in your New York themed outfits, whether it is your favorite Broadway show, New York sports team, or simply dress to impress! Whatever fits your style to walk the red carpet! There will be a dance demonstration at 6pm, photo booth opportunities and ice cream for purchase. See more details on the attached flyer.

We will be providing a limited amount of water bottles, but feel free to bring your dinner/snacks to enjoy outside at the lunch tables. Lace up those dancing shoes! Hope to see you there. (Note: this is NOT a drop off event, adult supervision is required)

Mark you calendars for a Dine Out fundraiser at the Kebab Shop Carmel Mtn Ranch on April 2nd.

Celebrate your students accomplishments or special events with a personalized message on the CVES marquee! This fundraiser benefits the 5th Grade Committee and allows you to purchase a message for $25 to be displayed for 2 days on the digital marquee sign in front of the school. Hello Canyon View Volunteers,

We are looking for volunteers for upcoming events. These are some smaller jobs for parents/ guardians who are looking to start with a smaller task. Seasoned CV volunteers are also welcome, of course!

The Silent Auction. Also a Foundation event to raise money for the same programs listed above (see Jog-A-Thon). Date is May 17. The Silent Auction is an online auction with the big finale at the Coyote Roundup. (See below for more info about the Roundup.) The Silent Auction also has a chair and is looking for committee members to help. Tasks include finding vendors to make donations, communicating with CV room parents, putting together baskets, and other organizational tasks.

The School Dance (formerly Winter Dance). This is a very popular PTO Event. Date is March 29. There are 2 seasoned event chairs and they need help on the day of the event (am and pm) for decorating, running the event (snack table, merchandise table), and clean up.

Garden. The PTO Garden is looking for some more help. They really need someone who can volunteer 2 hours, once a month, to cut back weeds.

The Coyote Roundup. Our big annual event at CV. Date is May 17. It is our carnival style event, with games, food, cake walk, prizes, and our Silent Auction in the MPR. There are multiple committees for the Roundup and we need more volunteers.

Coyote parents (members or not) are invited to attend our monthly Team CV meetings, especially if you are interested in learning what the PTO & Foundation do, how money that is raised is spent, or are interested in training or shadowing for a position on the board/s next year. Many of our current board members are graduating out with their 5th graders this year and having people who are comfortable taking over key roles is important to ensuring we maintain a strong partnership for our younger kids. Though formal childcare is not available, children are invited to attend meetings and sit in the room with parents. Meetings occur every first Thursday of the month at 6 pm in the Innovation Station or via Zoom. For Zoom info, please DM us to be added to the distribution list.

Our next meeting is Thursday, April 4th. Hope to see you there!

YARD SIGNS & 5TH GRADE PROMOTION FUND: Yard Signs are 18" x 24" and will include a metal lawn stake. They are available for $8 (single-sided) or $10 (double-sided) and can be customized with your 5th Grader's first name. In addition, we are asking each 5th grade family to make a donation towards the 5th Grade Promotion Fund. This helps cover expenses related to 5th Grade activities such as the picnic and kick ball game, movie night, yearbook signing party, and promotion ceremony. Too many absences - excused or unexcused - can keep students from succeeding in school and in life. How many are too many? 10% of the school year - that's 18 missed days or 2 days a month - can knock students off track.

If your child can't avoid missing school and will be out for three days or more, call the CVES office to request an OCIS contract.
