Irvington Weekly Newsletter

SOAR!
As you know, we used this year to take a look at our school-wide expectations. We used feedback from staff, families, and students to come up with small tweaks to our language that we'll use starting next year (see below). This morning a group of fourth graders unveiled our next school chant; we look forward to teaching everyone next year!
- Show kindness
- On task
- Act safe
- Reach for your best
Free Meals at Irving Park This Summer
The Nutrition Services department is very proud to partner with Portland Parks and Recreation to provide free lunches to all children in our community ages 1-18 at select parks throughout the city. Portland Parks and Recreation's Free Lunch + Play is open to all (no registration or enrollment necessary), and their team will be making lunches for children to enjoy in the park (grab and go meals are no longer permissible). This service will be offered Monday through Friday, June 26 through August 9 (except July 4 and 5). Please visit their webpage for more information.
Staffing Update for Next Year
Good news: the PTA approved funds to add to our staffing model, and as a result we are able to maintain the educational assistant (EA) role that we have had for the past two years at Irvington! Mr. Williams will continue to serve in that role next year.
Class Lists for Next Year
As we head into the summer, teachers and other staff will be finalizing class lists for next year. As in years past, you can expect a letter home in August from your child's teacher introducing themselves and letting you know a bit about what to expect.
Making class lists is a complex process: a lot of consideration goes into these decisions, and teachers agonize over lists to make sure they're honoring the needs of all students. Because there are so many moving parts, we do not accept requests for specific teachers or classmates. Please know that we take this process seriously and have your child's best interests in mind.
Fall After-School Activities
Get a sneak peak of the fall after-school class offerings here! Please note this schedule is still in progress and has not yet been finalized. Final schedules will be distributed when we come back to school in August.
