A Note from Our Principal 💛
Mrs. Shawnie Hays
Greetings SHES Families,
It was great to see so many families for Parent/Teacher conferences. A big thank you to those families who purchased SMENS, Lix, and/or Smencils. We sold over $300 to add to our Pettit Scholarship fund! I also want to give a big shout out for supporting our United Way KSU vs KU campaign. We raised $722.35 and KSU came out the winning team! Thank you for helping us give to such an important organization.
Halloween parade and parties were a lot of fun! Thank you to those adults who cheered us on during the parade and for helping with the classroom parties. We couldn't do this without your help!
We have two important events planned for this month. The first one is our Veterans Day parade on Friday, November 8th at 2:00pm. We will continue to have the parade outside and cheer on our Veterans as they drive by SHES students and staff. Please encourage your student to wear red, white, and blue. We look forward to cheering on our Veterans.
Our second event is our PTO Basket Auction & Chili Feed on Thursday, November 21st from 5:00-7:30pm. This event coincides with our volleyball intramurals as well. We have some wonderful baskets and student "experiences" provided by staff for you to try and win, not to mention the yummy chili and cinnamon rolls! Please help us make this a successful fundraiser for SHES.Thank you to the PTO for organizing such a fun event.
Have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving!
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I can be reached at

Mrs. Clay's Check-In 🖤
Happy November, Thunderbolts!
We say this every month, but man time is flying! Our second quarter is here and we are full-steam ahead until we reach winter break!
We have been lucky to have warmer temperatures stick around, but unfortunately that will begin to change. To keep our morning bus routes running smoothly, please remind your students to bundle up and be waiting outside at their specific pickup time.
The holiday season is officially upon us, and we all know how busy and expensive it can be! There are many organizations both within and outside of our school that would love to help support our students and their families this time of year -- we would love to see our Thunderbolts be able to take advantage of these great community resources! Some are listed below while others have been shared on our school Facebook page.
We look forward to another great month here at SHES. As always, please reach out to me with questions or clarifications at clayk@usd450.net or 785-730-5183.
Take care,
Katie Clay, Assistant Principal
Trick or Treat! 🎃
Community Resources 🤍
Care Closet
We are still collecting any non-perishable food items to add to our Care Closet. These items go directly to our SHES families who are in need. Your student can bring any items to Mrs. Fleming and Ms. Bloxsom's office. Thank you for your contributions!
Holiday Assistance
Hello Thunderbolt Families,
Cold weather and the holidays are right around the corner. We understand the challenges that can occur this time of year. If your family has needs in terms of food, clothing, utilities, medical or other items necessary for making it a holly, jolly Christmas, please reach out to our school counselor Ms. Sheri Fleming flemings@usd450.net or 785-730-5220. SHES staff and community organizations are available to hopefully make this season more comfortable and cheery for your family!

United Way Campaign 💰
Thank you SHES students and staff for participating in the KSU vs KU United Way campaign. We appreciate all our Jayhawk fans who showed up in some KSU purple! Thank you families for your generous support of our United Way campaign.
6th Grade Leadership Team 💪🏼
Our 6th Grade Leadership Team has really gotten to work this month! They served as school ambassadors at our 3rd and 4th grade music program, helped with Smen/Smencil sales during parent/teacher conferences, and have been meeting on a regular basis to discuss building-needs and ways to make our school even better. 🖤⚡️
