CHPS Selected for Attendance Pilot
Columbia Heights Public Schools was selected with twelve other school districts to participate in a pilot program to focus on student attendance at school. Over the coming year there will be a variety of communications emphasizing the importance of attending school every day and on time.
We are calling this initiative “Attend Today and Achieve Great Heights!” When students come to school late they often miss breakfast and important curriculum such as morning meetings and literacy instruction at the elementary schools. When students miss school, they not only miss the instruction of all the subjects taught that day but they also miss the social, emotional, and physical development that is supported by our teachers and staff.
Our teachers give such care and intentionality in their lesson planning – please help make sure your student can fully benefit from our outstanding teachers and caring school community! Here is a link to the CHPS webpage for the Attendance Pilot.

Join us for a tour of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s Organics Recycling facility with CHPS Community Education's Adult Enrichment Program. It's one of the largest in the state where they mix food organics with yard waste and turn it into finished compost, which is like a natural fertilizer for soil. We’ll learn about the 90 day process to create finished compost and about proper do’s and don’ts of organics recycling.
Transportation will be provided with a max of 10 participants. We will meet at the Murzyn Hall parking lot next to City Hall and the van will leave at 12:00 p.m. Please arrive by 11:45 a.m., so you do not miss the van departure to the facility.
Even though this is a free tour, you must register to ensure you have a seat in the large passenger van we will be taking with the city. Please wear close-toed shoes that can get dirty, as we will be walking around in a compost yard.
