The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) recently released proposed changes to graduation requirements for Indiana students. These changes would begin in 2029, impacting current 7th grade students as the first cohort to graduate with these new requirements.
The proposed plan eliminates the current diploma types and would instead have two new options. IDOE has called it a “significant redesign” of diplomas.
There are a few important points we want families to know:
These changes are not complete/definite. The proposed plan will undergo two more revisions.
It is too early to provide information on new graduation requirements. As noted, this plan will undergo changes, and we do not want to confuse families by providing information that may not be accurate after those revisions.
There are two opportunities for public comment regarding the changes. The first opportunity is available now (see link below), and the other will be available after the plan’s next round of revisions (this summer).
When a final version of this plan is released, our district will outline how these changes specifically impact our students and how CPCSC and CPHS will prepare students for graduation.
We encourage parents to carefully review the materials from IDOE regarding these changes and submit your input via the public comment link below. These comments are sent directly to IDOE.

Stop by any cafeteria to watch school nutrition professionals prepare healthy meals for students—all the while adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile—and you’ll see they are true heroes!
This is the reason we celebrate School Lunch Hero Day every year on the first Friday in May. This annual observance is a chance to showcase what a difference school nutrition professionals make in the lives of every child who comes through the cafeteria.
Students who purchase a school lunch on May 3rd will enjoy a special dessert as a celebration of our school lunch heroes!
Need a little extra help with your child’s nutrition this summer? The application for the new SUN Bucks benefit program is now open! Notification of automatic eligibility was sent April 16th via email. If you were not notified of automatic eligibility, submit your application as soon as possible to ensure you receive your SUN Bucks card to use for groceries this summer. Visit the Indiana SUN Bucks webpage for more information.
If you receive SUN Bucks, you can still participate in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Together, these benefits help fuel children during the summer months when school is out. Find more information by visiting the SFSP Site Finder.
We are fortunate to have so many summer activities available for our students! Check out the link below for camps and summer programs happening in CPCSC schools.
CPHS senior Emma Kulak showed Dr. Terrill around the building at Community Stroke & Rehab to explain her internship. Check out Emma's experience in our latest "Super Things"! (and yes, the mannequin is a bit creepy...)
Excellent work amongst the 31 CPHS students who competed at the state BPA conference, and best of luck to the 12 students who are moving on to the national competition in May! You can read more about their accomplishments here.
Col. Wheeler Middle School celebrated Purple Up! for the month of April. April is designated as the month of the military child, underscoring the important role military children play in the armed forces, community and family policy. The month of the military child is a time to applaud military families and their children for the daily sacrifices they make and the challenges they overcome. Col. Wheeler contains 25 active military families.
Students and staff at Jerry Ross Elementary had a great visit with Colonel Ross! He answered many of their questions - including how astronauts use the bathroom in space. :) You can see all of the photos at this link.
Did you know that CPCSC is a linguistically diverse district with more than 20 native languages spoken by our students? Our English Language Learners team recently held a Multicultural Family Night where families engaged in cultural exploration, played games, and enjoyed delicious food from the many different cultures represented in our district.
