UNION GAP SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
MARCH 2023 🍀
From the Desk of the Superintendent…..
Bring on Spring!!!! I am so tired of the cold and so are our students! It is so hard to believe that we are headed towards summer and the end of the 2022-2023 school year. Soon it is Kindergarten registration and then 8th grade promotion. Time flies!
I would like to recognize the importance of the partnership between schools and families in the success of our students. Research demonstrates that family involvement not only increases student achievement, but also increases the likelihood that students will graduate from high school and participate in post-secondary education. The following are some basic ways to support your child in their education:
- Use ParentSquare to stay in contact with your child’s teacher(s) as well as read important messages posted each day.
- Read with your child everyday, in English or your native language.
- Make a regular time and space for homework or skills practice every day. Turn off technology/television.
- Know what your child is studying. Learn new things yourself.
- Make sure your child gets enough sleep each night.
- Involve your family in community activities that expand on learning at school.
- Let your child know you expect good work in school.
If you would like additional information how to assist your child at home with their learning needs, please let us know.

Ms. McDonald’s 1st grade class welcomed Mr. Kilgren’s 4th period ELA 7th Graders for a morning of story time. In small groups, 1st graders shared their new library books. All the students did a wonderful job sharing and we had a blast!
