- International GENIUS Olympiad at RIT: Young scientist Ella Grann is presenting her project: Inoculating Pond Water to Prevent the Growth of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs). GENIUS Olympiad is an international high school project competition about environmental issues. It is founded and organized by Terra Science and Education and hosted by the Rochester Institute of Technology. Sixty-seven countries are presenting in this event! Good luck, Ella! See pics here.
SIP News: Senior Riley Donat's internship at JCK Foundation is one of a kind! Riley has written, produced and performed a three part podcast that shares conversations between people with diverse mental struggles and the challenges they've overcome. The first episode was an overview of mental health; the second was a deep-dive on unconventional coping mechanisms; and the third episode features another JCK intern sharing his passion for art and music and the ways it serves as a healthy outlet. Way to go, Riley! See pics here.
- Ms. Scalise's Class: Current juniors who took AP World History last year challenged one of this year's AP World History classes (sophomores) in the game Taboo--the world history version: students make cards based on different concepts throughout the year. This is a much anticipated event in Ms. Scalise's class for several years! The students love the competition. See attached for some fun pictures of the kids playing. See pics here.
Beyond These Halls!
- Track & Field: Congratulations to Ainara Schube Barriola, Micah Taffet, and Nathan Shpilberg on respectable performances at the NY State Meet last Friday at Cicero-North High School in Syracuse! Two rain delays and almost 4 hours later, Ainara took 6th in Girls D2 3000 meters! Micah and Nathan had nice showings in the 3200 meters & Discus Throw, capping off their high school track & field career! See pics here.
- Regatta: Several Rye Neck students competed in the Youth Rowing Nationals in Sarasota last week. Mark DiMaggio's boat took home the silver medal, as did Katie Lawhon & Tara O’Reilly's boat! Great showing, Rye Neck! See pics here.
