Spartan Weekly
News from Glen Crest Middle School: May 21, 2023
From the Principal
It may be the last week of school, but there is still a lot happening! Please read carefully for important reminders!
All library materials (books, loaner chromebooks, chargers and headphones) were due on May 21st. We still have almost 200 items checked out! Students have received overdue notices. The missing materials must be returned or the fine paid in order to receive a yearbook on Thursday.
Technology Inventory Monday, May 22nd: ALL STUDENTS NEED TO BRING THEIR CHROME BOOKS AND CHARGERS TO SCHOOL
8th graders - chrome books and chargers will be collected during 9th period. Every student must turn in their chrome book and charger. Fines will be issued for missing items and students will not get their yearbooks until the fines are paid.
6th and 7th graders: We will be taking inventory of chrome books and chargers for all 6th and 7th graders. If there is a student who is missing either the chrome book or the charger, parents will be billed over the summer for a replacement.
6th and 7th graders will be keeping their devices over summer vacation. Please find a cool, dry place to store the device. Please remind the kids it is not a toy, it is a school supply and should be taken care of so that it is ready for school in August. Any student not returning to Glen Crest should turn in their device to the main office on their last day.
REMINDERS FOR 8TH GRADE:
Ackerman trip Wednesday May 24th all day. As soon as we wrap up promotion practice in the morning, we will board the buses for Ackerman Park District. Students should dress for activity in school appropriate clothing. There will be outside activities available, so they should apply sunscreen before coming to school. All personal belongings, INCLUDING CELLPHONES, should be left at home. This is an "unplugged" event so that the kids can enjoy their time together. Photographs from the event will be available for download at a later date.
Promotion will take place at 7:00 at Glenbard South on May 24th. Students will need to arrive by 6:30. Handicap accessible seating is available upon request. Please contact Daenon Scobee, dscobee@ccsd89.org, to let us know if your family needs accommodations. There are no tickets needed. Please plan ahead for parking to be crowded.
Attire for the event is casual dresses, skirts or slacks and a top for girls. Heels are not recommended as it can be difficult to walk on the gym floor and across the stage. Boys typically wear khakis or dress slacks and a nice polo or dress shirt. Some chose to wear ties.
Field Day is Wednesday, May 24th. 6th and 7th graders will be participating in the activity of their choice (they have already signed up through their PE classes) that afternoon. Please make sure your student knows what activity they signed up for and where it meets.
6th GRADE:
To wrap up the year, 6th grade social studies students read A Long Walk to Water and fundraised for Salva Dut’s foundation Water for South Sudan. This year, 6th grade students collectively donated $1,468.94. The class periods with the most earnings were Ms. Bolker’s 1st period class with $451, and Ms. Husain’s 1st period class with $235. Great things happen when we work as a team! As Salva says, “when life gets tough…just remember to keep on walking.” Go sixth grade!
Sixth-grade students will be cleaning out their lockers on Wednesday, May 24th. Please send students to school with an extra bag (grocery, reusable, etc.) to bring home everything from their lockers.
A friendly reminder that all sixth-graders are invited to bring one (or three) flowers to school tomorrow (Monday) for a special celebration!
Extra curricular activities
Sign up for Spartan Volleyball and Basketball Camps through the Glen Ellyn Park District. All 5th - 8th graders are welcome!
