A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal
Happy Sunday GRHS Longhorns,
Our Longhorns sure "GOT" talent...and boy did they "BRING IT" this past week! CTE, DECA, SKILLSUSA, Orchestra, Dance, Art-VASE, and athletics all did amazing! These Longhorns (and their teachers/coaches) are ON FIRE in and out of the classroom! Check out all the accolades below! I am super proud of their hard work and dedication!
Shout out to Mrs. Claudia Urbina who was named the SkillsUSA District Advisor of the year for District 9! Thank you for all you do for your students; this award is well deserved!
Each morning the tardy bell rings at 8:15am and announcements begin. If you happen to be running late that day, and are still in the hallway for a tardy, please make sure you are stopping and pausing (quietly) during the pledges and moment of silence. Once this is over you are welcome to head to class. I am asking all adults and students to please be respectful of this expectation moving forward. Thanks.
Course Selection and Counselor Schedules:
22-23 Course Selection is in FULL swing, which means our counselors are out of their offices MOST of the day. They meet one-on-one with EVERY student to ensure they are set up for success (and graduation) here at GRHS. In the interim, if you have a question, their awesome Admin Assistant - Mrs. Ware, will be happy to assist you/your child. Her contact info is here, nware@lcisd.org and will also be linked in the counselors "out of office reply" for easy access for you.
If you do not have an ID at this point, (because you have lost BOTH of them that we gifted you) you will need to purchase a new one for $5 in the library from 8:00-8:15am.
If you choose not to, there will be a HOLD placed on your account for the end of year. (exemptions/graduation/final grades, etc)
- No ID = No Tech! ID's are mandatory everyday! No more temporaries will be issued. If you need a NEW ID/Lanyard- can be purchased for $5 in the library from 8:00-8:15 daily! Lanyards/ID's should be on the second you step through the doors each day. Please make sure you are following this rule as well as being in dress code and to ensure that you are not written up for non compliance.
The front office is open daily Monday- Friday 8:00-4:00pm to assist you. You can also directly email us or call 832-223-4200 during the same hours. We are happy to help!

The Longhorn Softball program faced a competitive Elkins team on Tuesday. JV came away with the win of 13-0. B. Bielitz worked hard on the mound and had a triple. Varsity put up a strong fight but fell short with a score of 6-4. Overall, defense was solid with two stellar catches by K. Deas and strong plays at short by S. Compian. K. Deas went 3 for 3 in the box and our bats are waking up! Proud of these teams and their fight.
Baseball
The 9th grade longhorns lost to Pearland High School 8-2. Offensively, Blake Beheler hit a 2 run Homerun in the 2nd inning. Herman Hernandez, Mason Gentles, Colton Yanta and Nathaniel Vogler all pitched against the oilers.
Varsity baseball - Bradley Hermes came in to slam the door in the top of the 9th and Grant Reynolds hit the game winning single to score Drew Psyk to beat Pearland 6-5 in extra innings. Reese Beheler went 3-4 and had 3 RBIs for the Longhorns.
The JV Baseball Team took on the Pearland Oilers Monday Night in their first non-district game of the year. The Horns lost the game 13-3 after the Oilers caught fire early and kept the lead for the entirety of the game. The Horns will look to rebound Thursday in the first day of the LCISD JV Tournament on Thursday.
Varsity baseball lost 3-2 to Jersey Village in the first game of the Cy Fair Varsity Tournament. Reese Beheler and Tre Akins had an RBI and Beau Beaty pitched 4 solid innings but it was not enough to defeat the Falcons.
The JV Longhorn Baseball Team took on the Katy Taylor Mustangs Friday in their first match up in the LCISD JV Baseball Tournament. The Horns came away with a 4-3 victory after Cody Ford knocked in the winning run before the game hit the time limit. Both Trent Richards and Briggs Surratt held the Mustangs batters in check and kept the game within striking distance. The Horns will take on the Ridge Point Panthers Saturday as the tournament continues.
Tanner Calvo had a strong outing on the mound but the Mustangs were too much for the Longhorns who fell 3-1.
Varsity baseball - Tre Aikens’ game winning single scored Drew Psyk as the Longhorns walked off against Klein Collins 4-3. Bradley Hermes had a strong start on the mound and Jackson Reifel picked up his first varsity win against the Tigers. The win evens up the Longhorns’ record at 2-2 for the year.
TENNIS
The longhorn varsity tennis team traveled to Clear Brook this week. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate and we weren't able to finish the tournament. When the rained picked back up, Cristian Johnson & Josh Minotti were competing in A & B Boys Singles semifinal consolation matches. She faced off against strong players from Covenant Prep and Kingwood High School. Avery Knight also competed in the A Girls Singles division and brought home a medal for winning the consolation draw. She lost in a competitive match in the first round of the tournament to a talented player from Kingwood who ended up winning 1st in the main draw. In B Girls Singles, Solana Argao went undefeated and earned 1st place. She defeated talented players from Dobie, Deer Park, and Atascocita. Doubles team of Edie Oestreich and Sophia Crescini earned the 3rd place medal in the B Girls Doubles division. They had great communication on the court and beat talented teams from Friendswood and Atascocita. Shoutout to all athletes on successfully competing in another tournament and representing our school in the best light possible.
The Longhorn JV tennis team saw much success at the Deer Park Tournament! The team brought home trophies in 5 of the 10 divisions. Victor Gonzalez and Addison Powell won 1st place in the A Mixed Doubles draw. This dynamic duo faced off against competitive doubles teams from Clear Brook, Stratford, and Dulles but came out undefeated. Nadia Badillo and Isabella Leung won 2nd place in the A Girls Doubles draw. Despite this being a new doubles pairing, these girls had great chemistry on the court. In the A Boys Doubles division, Christian Le and Zayne Smith earned 3rd place overall. They played great tennis all day, but ultimately fell short to a talented team from Kingwood 7 to 9. Mark Warren and Hayden Gazaway won 2nd place in the B Boys Doubles division. They played smart tennis all day, but ended up losing in the finals to a strong boys doubles team from Memorial. Mixed doubles team of Bryson Vyvial and Aniston Lovetinsky won the consolation draw of the B division. This duo communicated well on the court in all their matches. Congratulations to all athletes on a great day of tennis and overall growth!
