Save the Date: BES Multicultural Night
Reminder - Save the Date: BES Multicultural Night - May 9th (5:30-7:00 pm)
On May 9, 2024, we will be having a multicultural night to celebrate all the amazing cultures not only in our building but around the world. Each grade level will be learning about a country on the continent they are studying. Alongside what they learn in class they will be creating art work that aligns with the country. We want to give families the opportunity to share their culture with the BES community. If your family or a cultural organization that you're apart of is interested in participating in any of the following ways, please indicate all that apply below. We will contact you with more information soon. Thank you and we look forward to seeing lots of different expressions of culture from within our community!
Ramadan: Sun, Mar 10, 2024 – Tue, Apr 9, 2024
Ramadan is considered one of the holiest months of the year for the Muslim faith. It involves fasting with no food or drink from pre-dawn until dusk. During this time, students can go to the media center during lunch if they prefer not to be in the cafeteria.
Run Club 2024
We are excited to announce that The Briarcliff Running Club will start soon. Running Club applications will be sent home this Tuesday, March 12th. If your child would like to participate, please complete the application and return it to their Homeroom Teacher. We will meet on Friday mornings from 7:45 - 8:45 beginning April 12th. We would love to have as many volunteers as possible. If you are interested, please complete the volunteer information on the application form (linked here). Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Carpenter (919-649-3829) if you have any questions.
DEI and Advocacy Newsletter
Single Subject Advancement, SSA Opportunity
Parents may nominate their child at Briarcliff Elementary for the Single Subject Advancement, SSA, test. These students should be performing 2-3 grade level above their current grade in either math or reading. Please look at the data that we have such as NKT, Star Marth, NC Check Ins, EOG's, CogAT's, report cards, and teacher recommendations to see if this type of acceleration is appropriate. Students will need a nomination test request form turned in by April 12, 2024 and the testing window opens April 22-May 6 2024. Please contact Cammie Viverette cviverette@wcpss.net I will repond back within 24 hours to your questions.
Solar Eclipse
The 2024 Great North American Eclipse will happen on Monday, April 8, 2024. In North Carolina, the partial eclipse will begin around 1:58pm and peak at approximately 3:15pm when the moon obscures about 82% of the sun. We will experience a partial view of the Total Eclipse. Skies will gradually begin to darken as the moon moves into the path of the Sun. Overtime, the sky will become increasingly dark and then will gradually become filled with more light as the moon moves out of the path of the sun.
As a school we will be safely watching this and teaching students about the eclipse. Our afternoon will be full of fun events all about the eclipse. We are so excited to do this as a whole school. You will e getting a permission slip on Tuesday this week. Please return by this Friday!
I have asked the Teacher Support Committee (TSC) from the PTA to work to get donations for glasses. We can not use just any glasses. I have given them the specific information. Please do NOT purchase ones for your child. Instead if you would like to help watch for information from this team, as they are working to get ones that meet the requirements set by WCPSS.

Diverse Books Make a Difference for our Students
Earlier this year, Ms. Parrish received a grant from the Wake County PTA Council Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee to enrich our school library with 16 diverse books. This week, she shared “The Secret Garden of George Washington Carver” by Gene Barretta with a third-grade class. The quotes in this image are direct reflections from the students after immersing themselves in the book! A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Parrish and the entire Briarcliff staff!
