Lafayette School
Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Morning Drop Off
- Supervision begins at 8:50 a.m.
- Please enter the high school driveway that is across from/near Maple Street.
- Drive across the front of the high school and turn right into the large circle.
- All cars should pull up as far as possible before stopping to allow your child out of the car.
- All students should exit the car from the passenger side.
- Your child can get out of the car once you pass the Buildings and Grounds driveway and you have pulled up as far as you can.
- Please do not wait for your child to get closer to the front of the car line before getting out of the car. When you wait, it delays and disrupts the flow of traffic.
- Do not use the LAF driveway. Use of the LAF driveways is prohibited. It is for students, staff, and school buses only.
- If arriving after 9:00 a.m., you can use the LAF driveway.
Morning Line Up
The third and fourth grade students will line up in the front parking lot. The fifth-grade students will walk to the back of the building and line up on the field. If there is rain on the first day, students will report directly to their homeroom. On other days of inclement weather, students will line up outside of their homeroom (3rd grade), in the cafeteria (4th Grade), and the gym (5th Grade).
For the first couple of days, there will be signs with the homeroom teacher's name to indicate exactly where students should line up. Please click here for a detailed overview of where the classes will line up and which doors each class will enter each morning. Reviewing this with your child before the first day of school will assist us in getting the students into the school in an efficient and safe manner.
Dismissal
- Students will be dismissed from their classrooms at 3:30 p.m.
- Students will use various doors to exit the building to ensure that everyone leaves safely.
- If students are in walking groups, a specific area on school grounds should be agreed upon. Please remind your child to be patient if they are waiting for their walking group. Too often a group leaves without a friend causing confusion and distress.
- Early student pick-ups between 3:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. are discouraged and should be avoided.
- If you are picking up your child early from school, every parent/caregiver will need to show identification and be listed in Genesis in order to pick up their child. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Afternoon Pick Up (cars): Two Options
Option I:
- Our carline assembles in the high school circle just like drop off.
- Parents picking up their children in the high school circle should not get out of their car and use caution when pulling away.
- All students getting picked up in the carline will assemble in front of the high school auditorium.
- Supervisors will assist parents and students during pick-up from the car line.
- You may also park in the high school parking lot as another option for pick-up beginning at 3:15 p.m. This is the only time you can park in the CHS lots.
- If you use this option, you have to get out of the car to pick up your child near the high school.
- Children will not be allowed to cross the driveway and walk through the parking lot alone. Please respect the supervisor as they enforce the safety rules.
- Do not use the LAF driveway. Use of the LAF driveways is prohibited. It is for students, staff, and school buses only. Please let all of your caregivers know that using the LAF driveway is prohibited.
- If arriving after 3:50 a.m., you can use the LAF driveway.
Bike Racks & Bike Safety
- LAF has a bike rack in the front of the school near the front doors and a bike rack in the back of school near the playground.
- Students are asked to walk their bikes when they are on school property due to the number of students on school property during arrival and dismissal.
- This also includes the Dellwood Path.
Parking
- Parking on-site is very limited. All spaces that have numbers are for staff members only.
- Our front parking lot is used for student lineup and Physical Education Classes.
- Please do not assume that if a numbered spot is open during the day that you can park in a spot that is numbered. Teachers may leave for lunch or to run an errand during the day. They count on their spots being available upon their return to the building.
- There is no access or parking in the high school parking lot until 3:15 p.m. Again, even if you see an open parking spot in the high school, please do not park in the spot. All of the parking spots in the high school are assigned to teachers and students.
- Please adhere to all local parking ordinances when parking on the street.
Walking
Walking to and from school is a great responsibility and another step in your child's journey to independence. The LAF students are taught that walking to and from school is an extension of school therefore all school rules and expectations apply until they get home. Too often reports of inappropriate, bullying, and unsafe behaviors come to my attention. Ongoing conversations at home about respecting other students who are walking, as well as respecting other people's property, are essential to the success of walking home.
