Reaching the Hearts and Minds of Every Child
What's Happening at the Hive?
We are all excited about our first Black History Program on Monday and welcome you to join us. As this our first, it is not perfect and we would like to have had more time to plan, but I am thrilled that we have started this new tradition at Hopewell. This late notice is part of the 'not perfect' part. We weren't sure this was even possible until last week. Our guests were only available for one performance, therefore, classes are attending on a first-come, first-served basis. We can't fit the entire campus in the gym. I promise, from here on out we will plan so that all students will attend. The program will begin at 8:30 and end at approximately 9:45. Please talk with your child, and if their class is not attending, but you would like to attend, simply enter through the front office with your child and we will make sure they are not marked absent to first period.
Some of our speakers and entertainment include: NAACP President to share how Black History Month began, Ryia Marin will dance to a poem by Maya Angelou, student Bronson Burleson reciting Martin Luther King Jr.'s I Have a Dream, Stony Point High School Step Team, and Area Director Natalie Nichols will share how she overcame the odds to become the Area Superintendent for the Stony Point Learning Community in RRISD.
It is sure to be a memorable event and I hope to see some parents there. A huge thank you goes out to our Equity Committee for organizing both the Black History Program and the First Annual Taste of Soul Potluck!! Have a great week everyone.

Along with being an outstanding student in the classroom, Nydia is also a great dancer. She has been dancing since the age of three. Her favorite style of dancing is Ballet, Tap, and Contemporary.
Nydia has been chosen for the American Ballet Theater Summer Intensive ballet program at the senior level and Ballet Austin’s 2020 Senior Summer Intensive Program. The Senior Summer Intensive is a concentrated course that provides students with a deeper understanding of ballet technique and related dance styles.
She competed in the Stacy Kaye Danielson Solo and Ensemble competition, the competition is open to all K - 12th-grade students in public schools and studio categories, her ensemble performance at the studio level won second place.
Hopewell is so proud of your accomplishments Nydia!

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Fundraiser
Attention: Hopewell Community
Hopewell Middle School will once again participate in the annual Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Fundraiser.
This fundraiser is a school-wide community-service learning project
where students work together to help raise awareness and funds for thousands of children and adults fighting blood cancer.
Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer and every 10 minutes someone loses their battle. Your donations help to fund lifesaving blood cancer research.
Please have your students consider donating their spare coins each day in the coinboxes provided by their advisory teachers. Donations will be accepted through March 13th. Our goal this year is $500.
If we reach our goal, Coach Saunders and Mr. Garza have graciously agreed to dress up in their finest women's attire on Friday, March 13th. (Coach Jones and Coach Pesqueira has offered to assist Coach Saunders with his makeup and clothes selection).
Thank you in advance for participating, together we can help fight cancer.
