Matanzas High School Weekly Update
October 11, 2024
Hurricane Milton
I hope that all of our students and families of Pirate Nation are well after Hurricane Milton. If your family has any needs, please do not hesitate to reach out to the administration or guidance department at Matanzas High School.
The Flagler Schools Plant Services department has thoroughly checked our campus and it is undamaged by the storm. Flagler Schools will be communicating at at later date any plans for make up days for Hurricane Milton.
Monday, October 14th
Remember that October 14th, which was previously scheduled to be a teacher work day, will now be a regular student school day due to the school missed due to Hurricane Helene. We look forward to seeing all of our Pirates back at the school Monday.
Revised Quarter 1 Timeline
Friday, October 18th - End of Quarter 1
Friday, October 25th - Quarter 1 Report Cards Available on Skyward
Schoolwide Testing Day - 10/16
Who is Testing on 10/16?
9th Grade - Study Hall - this is the last week of Quarter 1 this will be a great time for students to complete any missing work!!!
10th Grade - All 10th grade students will take the PSAT
11th Grade - All 11th grade students will take the PSAT/NMSQT
12th Grade - Any student who has not yet met their graduation testing requirement for ELA and Math will take the SAT (Non-College Reportable version). 12th graders who are not testing will have a Study Hall in the gym.
*There is NO make up scheduled for the PSAT or SAT, if students are absent they will miss this opportunity to test.*
Why Take the PSAT-NMSQT?
- The PSAT can be used to earn a 'concordant' score to meet the math test score graduation requirement.
- All students who take the PSAT will receive feedback on their college and career readiness and be connected to resources to prepare for college and careers.
- 11th grade students can qualify for National Merit Scholarships based on their scores for this PSAT administration.
12th Grade - SAT Non-College Reportable
Any 12th grade student who has not yet met their graduation requirement for either ELA or Math will take the SAT (Non-College Reportable version) on October 9th. There is no make up day for this test, so it is imperative that any 12th grader who still needs to earn a score for graduation is in attendance on this day.
Career Readiness Event 10/16
All students are invited to visit the Pirate Theater during their lunch on Wednesday, October 16th when we will host a Career Readiness Event, thanks to the Flagler Education Foundation and several local business partners. Several local educational organizations, businesses and career resources will be on site to speak with students about career opportunities!
October is National Bullying Prevention Month
This month, many of our groups on campus are sponsoring activities to promote our anti-bullying message: "Be an Upstander, not a Bystander" in recognition of October as National Bullying Prevention Month. We are appreciative of National Honor Society, Matanzas Future Teachers, and SGA who are sponsoring activities throughout the month to spread kindness.
