VVSD Staff Spotlight- Meg Sutko, 5th Grade Cross Categorical Teacher, Oak View Elem.
Oak View 5th grade students and VVSD are the beneficiaries of the patience of the younger sister of Oak View Cross Categorical Teacher Meg Sutko. Meg’s little sister was the lone student in a pretend basement classroom when Meg herself was an elementary school student who began to act on her interest in becoming a teacher.
Meg began to experience teaching in real classrooms while she was a still a student at Lewis University where she also collected several all-academic honors as a member of the Lewis women’s soccer team.
Physicals and Immunization Records Due by October 15
For the 2024-25 school year, all Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 6th, and 9th grade students, and students new to Valley View School District, must have a current physical examination and required immunization forms turned into their school’s nurse, no later than October 15, 2024. Current physicals must be dated within 12 months of the school start date, between August 15, 2023, and August 15, 2024.
All 12th grade students must show proof of having received the meningococcal vaccine.12th-grade entry: two doses of meningococcal conjugate vaccine.
Minimum intervals for administration:
● For 6th-grade entry: the first dose received on or after the 11th birthday
● For 12th-grade entry: second dose on or after the 16th birthday and an interval of at least eight weeks after the first dose
Only one dose is required if the first dose was received at 16 years of age or older. No proof of immunity is allowed.
In addition, according to Illinois law, children entering kindergarten or the Illinois school system for the first time must have an eye exam within one year before the first day of school and provide proof to their school by October 15 of that year.
If these documents are not in possession of the school nurse by October 15, your child will be excluded from school until the required documents are received.

VVSD Hiring Now for 2024-25 School Year
VVSD is still hiring for a wide range of positions for the 2024-25 school year with an emphasis on adding to our teams of paraprofessionals, lunchroom/playground aides and special education teachers.
We are also seeking new team members including guest teachers, bus drivers, operations & maintenance, nutrition services, and special education staff.

VVSD Nutrition Services to Provide Free Meals to Students During 2024-25 School Year
VVSD students pre-kindergarten through 12th grade are offered both a free breakfast and lunch meal each school day during the 2024-25 school year. These meals are offered for free by the National School Lunch Program administered by the United States Department of Agriculture through the Community Eligibility Provision for the 2024-25 school year.
No form is needed to receive these free meals. However, families should still complete a Fee Waiver Form to apply for school fee waivers and other financial benefits. The 2024-25 Fee Waiver Form is expected to be available August 1. For more information, visit www.vvsd.org/food
Fall is Theatre Season in Valley View!
A.Vito Martinez Middle School Presents “Murder on the 518”
In this play red-eye travelers on the westbound 518 are in for a surprise when first one passenger, and then another, mysteriously drop dead right before their eyes — and just as the train is halted by a rockslide in an isolated canyon. Because the pair appears to have been poisoned, anyone and everyone in the train dining car is a suspect!
Performance dates are Fri. Dec. 13 at 6pm and Sat. Dec. 14 at Noon. Tickets available by cash purchase at the door only. Adults $5, Students $3, Children under 5 years old, no charge.

Kudos for Noteworthy Achievements
The Bolingbrook HS Boys’ Soccer Team was featured on the Labor Day Edition of Fox 32’s Chicago’s Good Day Chicago for their participation in an outreach program raising awareness for the importance of colon cancer screening in young adults.
Seen Around Valley View
This summer’s extremely high humidity levels have caused delays in the installation of the new gymnasium floor at Romeoville HS. The weather is finally cooperating, and the striping of the floor and addition of the designs is now taking place.
Finally! A gorgeous day on Tue. Sept. 3 for our RX Mobile Food Pantry volunteers. The volunteers have endured rain, snow, heat, cold, high winds, and high humidity for the last 12 months! Thanks to VNA Healthcare, Northern.Illinois Food Bank, Southwest Suburban Immigrant Project, Advocate Good Sam Hospital. Next Mobile Food Pantry Tue Oct 1, 9 am northwest parking lot at Bolingbrook HS.
The renovated Jonas Salk Elementary School Playground officially opened on Thu. Sep. 5 at the ceremonial ribbon cutting prior to Curriculum Night. The new equipment passed the highly thorough kid testing process and is certified as kid approved.
Quick Notes
The next regular meeting of the Valley View Board of Education will be held Monday, September 9 at John J. Lukancic Middle School, 725 W. Normantown Rd., Romeoville IL. This meeting will begin at 6:30 pm, at which time the Board will vote to move to Closed Executive Session. The Public Session of the meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

Romeoville Community Pantry
The Romeoville Community Pantry is a community service organization operated by volunteers in the Romeoville community. The Pantry serves anyone who lives in Romeoville, Bolingbrook, Lockport, Plainfield, Lemont, and Crest Hill. The pantry is open every Saturday 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Clients are asked to provide a current photo ID and proof of residence in order to participate in our services. The location is inside the United Presbyterian Church located at 2 Belmont Drive in Romeoville. Northern Illinois Food Bank
The Northern Illinois Food Bank is conducting mobile food banks and micro pantries in the vicinity in the near future. Please bring bags or boxes. Micro Pantries are designed to allow anonymous food pick-up for those in need and a drop-off point for those who wish to help. Micro pantries are accessible 24 hours a day.
