For the next two weeks, we will be having Spirit Week at Deal! Please have fun wearing school appropriate outfits. The themes are:

This week, students will write a continuation narrative for Roll of Thunder.

Mx. Gomez, Math
Students did great work this week and had great feedback while I was out regarding the lessons they completed! For anybody who needs some extra practice, I offer tutoring on Monday and Wednesday during recess as well as tutoring after school on Wednesday from 3:30-4:30.
This upcoming week for Math 7 we will be wrapping up unit 3 on Circles. They will complete a Formative and an RCT during the 2nd half of the week and we will have a review/practice day on Tuesday.
This upcoming week for Math 6, students will continue our unit on dividing fractions, Students will have a Formative over Dividing Fractions using the Bar Model and Reciprocal method at the end of the week.

Ms. Wesselhoft, Geography
I am looking forward to seeing all these wonderful presentations your scholars are making in class. They have researched a story of the diaspora and are making PowerPoints on some very interesting topics/people. Students will finish their projects in class on Monday and present on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, we begin Unit 3: Middle East/North Africa: Wednesday – Political and Physical Maps, Thursday and Friday – Thematic Map Exploration.
I will be sending home permission slips on Monday for our next Geography field trip on December 6th. Please read over it with your student and return ASAP!

Hi Scientists!
Congratulations on completing the Rock Identification and Crayon Labs this week – great job! Next week, we’ll be diving into the concepts of Weathering, Erosion, and Deposition. Students will engage in a Skittles Lab, which uses Skittles to help students understand these geological processes in a fun and hands-on way.
Later in the week, we’ll be working on the Slope Deposition Lab, where students will simulate and observe how materials move and settle on different slopes. This lab will be due on Monday, November 25.
Week 3 Roots:
• Pyro – fire (as in pyromaniac, pyroclastic, pyrotechnics)
• Chrono – time (as in chronological, chronic)
• Topo – place/area (as in topography, topical)
• Seismo – shaking (as in seismograph, seismology)
• Trans – across, through, over (as in translation, transfer)
Keepers: petro/petri, super, ign, centi, octa, milli
Please encourage your student to review these root words as well as the keepers for the quiz.

Team Friendsgiving
Team Abuja will come together to celebrate Friendsgiving on Tuesday, November 27th during lunch. Students should bring in their normal lunch and will be able to purchase their cafeteria lunch if they need to do so. Students are asked to bring one of the following based on their 1st period class to share with their friends:
Kirschenbaum/Daboh - Chips (must be store bought and nut free)
Wesselhoft – Beverage
Gomez – Dessert (must be store bought and nut free)
Sagan – Dessert (must be store bought and nut free)
Pencils
Please check in with your student to make sure that they have a stock of pencils to use in school.
Tutoring
As the year goes on, we want to ensure that students are able to access help when they need it! Team Abuja teachers are available by appointment, and there is a dedicated Tutoring Time in either Mx. Gomez's room or Ms. Sagan's room on Wednesdays from 3:30 - 4:20. Here We Grow!
