The Riverwalk Roar
The Riverwalk Roar: September 1, 2024
Happy Sunday, Pride!
It’s been a great week at Riverwalk Academy. Not only did we make it through the full week without a weather/environmental closure, but the week ended on a high note with National College Colors Day. It was wonderful to see so many students and staff showing their college pride on Friday.
Just as our students are giving their best in the classroom, athletes across the state are showing their grit on the field. Whether you’re a fan of the Carolina Gamecocks or the Clemson Tigers, one thing is certain—every game is a battle, and every win is hard-earned. I know our Tiger fans are disappointed with their performance against Georgia, but what happened to the Gamecocks is perplexing. They won, and you’d think their fan base would be thrilled. But just the opposite happened… Carolina fans were disappointed in Saturday’s victory over Old Dominion. I appreciated what ODU’s coach, Coach Rahne, said: “They deserve to be able to feel good about winning a football game because they just played a heck of a football team, so they shouldn’t feel bad. No one should make them feel bad about, quote-unquote, ‘barely winning.’”
Coach Rahne’s words are a powerful reminder that success isn’t just about the final score; it’s about the effort, determination, and teamwork that go into every moment on the field.
At Riverwalk Academy, we celebrate all victories, big or small. Whether it’s a student who has worked hard to master a new academic skill or a student who has focused diligently throughout the week, we celebrate their efforts. The same is true for our athletes. Whether it’s our swimmer or cross-country runner who achieved a personal best (shout out to the 11 XC runners who earned a personal best on Saturday), or our volleyball team that, after losing their first set of the season 25-5, came back even stronger in the second and third sets, we recognize and celebrate their growth.
In the classroom or in athletics, let’s find ways to continually support our students and athletes, knowing that every step forward is a win worth celebrating.
Lions, let's have a great week of taking those forward steps!
In Pride and Purpose,

Our 5th Grade Rivewalk Safety Patrol doesn't let the heat and sun stop them from doing an amazing job of helping our K-5th students get in and out of their rides safely every day!

Attendance Awareness Month
Attendance Awareness Month is a dedicated initiative aimed at highlighting the critical role of consistent school attendance in student success. Recognized annually in September, this month focuses on educating families, educators, and communities about the profound impact that regular attendance has on academic achievement and overall well-being. Through various activities and resources, Attendance Awareness Month seeks to address and reduce chronic absenteeism by emphasizing the importance of engagement in the educational process.
