NEHS Newsletter
November 2024 - Vol. 6 Issue 6
Dollenger says....
Hello NEHS,
Congratulations to our Band and Cheerleaders who placed at the top of their end of season competitions, and any fall sports teams who made playoffs! We are so proud of the accomplishments of students at this school who go above and beyond outside the classroom in sports and extracurricular activities.
A few important reminders....
The end of the marking period is two school days away on November 6. Students should be checking PowerSchool daily to keep on top of their assignments.
Any student with unexcused absences and over four absences total must be staying for Twilight to make up days, otherwise, they will get Z's. (Another round of letters for any student in danger of failing attendance will be sent to guardians' and students ‘ email address Friday, November 1)
The Marking Period 1 report card will play into Winter athletic eligibility. Students who receive any F's on this report card will be academically ineligible to try out for winter sports on November 15th.
Please take action while there is still time to receive the best grades possible!

Hello North East Families!
We are the Action Club, an organization very similar to the PTA/PTO from the elementary and middle schools. Anyone may join our club (free of charge), but we are primarily a group of parents who work together to do all that we can to support and enhance the experiences for the students, staff, and local community of North East High School (NEHS). We are here to promote NEHS’s curricular and extra-curricular support for school-wide activities in an effort to improve school spirit, provide enrichment, and develop positive student, teacher, parent, administrative, and community relationships.

General Athletic Information
If you are planning on coming to support our student athletes please know that all football and any other event that starts at 5:00 PM or later will be gated and admission will be charged.
NEHS has experienced problems with the implementation of credit and debit cards electronically at sporting events for admission. The poor cell service has made consistent and efficient use problematic. Please continue to be prepared to pay cash just in case this service is not working on any particular game day.
We do not allow backpacks, pets, or outside food (when we offer concessions). Any student under high school age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There is no smoking or vaping anywhere on school property regardless of age.
HOBY Ambassador 24-25
The Hugh O’Brien State Leadership Seminar empowers high school sophomores to develop leadership skills to become the leaders of their community. This year’s seminar is June 5th - June 8th, 2025 at Towson University. Additional information can be found at www.hoby.org
One sophomore from our school will be selected from the applications received to represent NEHS as an Ambassador. NEHS will cover the registration fee for the student. To be considered, please complete the application and return to Mrs. Jones in the guidance office by November 15, 2024.

Students got to work on "relational capacity" building yesterday in Mr. Veiger's AVID 10 class. Teams worked together on the "Spaghetti Tower Challenge". They had 18 minutes to build the tallest tower out of 20 pieces of spaghetti, a yard of tape, a yard of string, and a marshmallow. They used teamwork to plan, test, and build their towers.
Blue Locker
Blue Locker is a small shop within the high school where everything is FREE and students can access it anonymously. We offer a variety of sizes of mens' and womens' clothing and shoes. We also have limited hygiene products and non-perishable foods. Students who need assistance can fill out the Google Form by scanning the QR Code. BIG NEWS - We have recently added school supplies!
*Only available to NEHS students
Safe Schools Maryland
Welcome to Safe Schools Maryland - an ANONYMOUS and FREE reporting system available to students, teachers, school staff members, parents, and the general public to report any school or student safety concerns, including mental health concerns. Safe Schools Maryland is Maryland’s only official anonymous reporting system. Safe Schools Maryland operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year. Your anonymous report can be submitted by calling the tip line (1-833-MD-B-SAFE / 1-833-632-7233), completing an online form (below), or downloading the free Safe Schools Maryland app from the App Store or Google Play. https://schoolsafety.maryland.gov/Pages/Tipline.aspx
No Outside Food Deliveries During the School Day
Please refrain from having food/beverages delivered or dropped off to students during the school day. Deliveries will be turned away. We thank you in advance for your assistance in reducing the amount of disruptions to school operations.
Let’s work together to eliminate unnecessary and unlawful absences!
Frequent absences can be a sign that a student is losing interest in school, struggling with school work, dealing with a bully or facing some other difficulty.
By 6th grade, absenteeism is one of three signs that a student may drop out of high school.
By 9th grade, attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than 8th grade test scores.
Missing 10%, or 2 days a month, over the course of the school year, can affect a student’s academic success.
Bus Notes
As a reminder, a request to ride a different bus home or to school is reserved for emergencies and will need approval of administration. If you are requesting permission for your child to ride another bus, please follow the steps below:
· A written note from both parents indicating the reason for the request
· Please include your phone number on the note
· Notes must be received by noon on the day of the request
· Phone calls cannot be accepted
