Help us celebrate Bullying Prevention Week at Deerfield!
WHAT IS BULLYING? The answer to this question can sometimes be very confusing. The 3 main pieces of a behavior that is considered to be bullying behavior includes: usually (but not always) repeated, intentionally aggressive or unwanted behaviors, and there is a real or perceived imbalance of power. Here are a few links to help with defining what bullying is and how to help our students deal with bullying situations:
Kansas Department of Education's Information regarding bullying prevention:
https://www.stopbullying.gov/bullying/what-is-bullying

Always report concerns to your teacher, Mrs. Appleman or Mrs. Bobey. Thank you for being a part of our Deerfield Family!

REMINDER: Covid Close Contact Notification
If you do not receive direct notification to quarantine, your student is not a close contact or at risk of exposure. Families may find a list of reported COVID-19 cases and Lawrence Public Schools' COVID-19 prevention measures at www.usd497.org/COVID19.
Please also note that the Kansas Legislature passed House Bill 2134 in May, and the Governor signed it into law. This law limits remote learning in public schools. Our teachers will provide homework assignments for students who are absent due to illness or a quarantine order from the health department, but there will be no remote learning at this time. Your classroom teacher will be in contact with parents with directions on obtaining homework.
Change Maker of the Week:

10/11-10/15- Kid President
10/18-10/22- Wilma Mankiller
