Navigating Utah's Online School Library

In this in-depth tutorial, Senior Technology Trainer Kayla Towner shows you how to navigate the wide range of educational websites and databases available to support K-12 students in the “general resources” located in Utah’s Online School Library.

In this episode of UEN Homeroom, hosts Dani and Matt are joined by three education experts to discuss the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the classroom. Tune in for an insightful conversation about the benefits as well as some of the challenges of incorporating AI into education. Listen at the link below.
More students are using mobile devices to access content and submit assignments. Designing content for a mobile device makes content accessible when students are ready to learn. This course is designed to provide educators with a mobile learning experience using the Canvas Mobile App. It is to be completed in its entirety on a mobile device (cell phone or tablet) to expose the learner to a truly mobile learning environment. Educators will learn best practices for mobile learning and microlearning using podcasts, video, social media, and mobile creation tools. To complete the course, educators will create their own mobile learning element that meets the needs of their students. Register for this course.

Educators are increasingly expected to exhibit skills and knowledge of using technology to enhance student learning. The UEN Educational Technology Endorsement Program is grounded in the USBE EdTech Competencies and the Utah Effective Teaching Standards. The Competency-Based Educational Technology Endorsement is divided into four courses. Participants will come away with a portfolio of work that aligns with each competency.

UEN Professional Development at the Tumbleweeds Film Festival

Last week UEN helped the Utah Film Center present the Tumbleweeds Film Festival. On Friday, the UEN PD and media teams helped to spotlight the award winners. The conference provides hands-on and breakout sessions focusing on insights and interventions with strategies to provide professional learning to improve student outcomes. Sessions will focus on strengthening mental and behavioral health supports, student supports, grading practices, literacy best practices, strengthening the guaranteed curriculum at each school and developing a culture of investment.

The Utah Council of Teachers of Mathematics has shared an application for a materials grant they are giving out to Utah Mathematics teachers. The applications are due on June 12th and will fund up to $1,500 of materials for your classroom. Learn more at this link.

UEN eMedia Utah Mathematics Hub

Mathematics in Utah challenges each student to develop and extend mathematical proficiency and literacy through:

  • The Utah Core Standards for Mathematics
  • High quality, asset-based mathematics educational experiences, and
  • Assessment systems that meet the learning needs of each student and provide educators with data to inform instruction and intervention.

Using the appropriate grade-level Utah Core Standards as a foundation, the secondary mathematics learning experiences provide an emphasis on depth over breadth with a focus on the Major Works for mathematics and the support of the Utah Mathematics Core Guides.
