A Message From Mrs. Justice
“THE BEGINNING OF A NEW MONTH
A perfect time for SHIFTING things around,
Always remembering to keep your feet on the ground”
— Charmaine J Forde
As I reflect on 2023 it is evident that we were all still trying to settle into our new norm after the pandemic. As the year progressed people seemed to settle a bit while having the ever changing understanding that in a minute’s time our entire world can be different.
With the thought of what we faced through the most trying times in our lives, there is one thing that remains true - we all experienced it together. Never before had we worn masks to complete simple daily tasks like going to the grocery store. We had not ever experienced arrows to guide us down the new one way aisles. We had barriers to keep us separated in lines.
Even though most of those practices are behind us now, we face the reality that as adults we still struggle to understand what we went through so imagine how kids feel! Students began attending school last year who had never stepped foot in a brick and mortar building. How could they have be expected to know how to “do school”? Lining up, sitting in their seats for extended periods of time, following directions, working with peers?
As we progress through 2024, I hope that we can each be patient when students need more encouragement to be successful, more empathetic when they need a break (we adults don’t even sit well), and more hopeful as the new normal becomes a more solid foundation for us all.
Happy 2024!

Linda Allen, SATH Executive Director
Join us in celebrating Linda Allen! Linda has 34 years of service with Southern Ohio ESC as the Supplementary Assistance to the Handicapped (SATH) Executive Director!
Upcoming events and news from Linda:
You're invited to the SATH Sweetheart Charity Ball!
The SATH organization will be hosting our 20th Annual Sweetheart Charity Ball on Saturday, February 10 th, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at Roberts Centre on 124 Gano Road in Wilmington, Ohio. We would love for you to be a part of this special evening.
SATH is a non-profit organization that assists children with disabilities by sponsoring programs that enhance the quality of their life. This event is a fundraiser to help with the cost of programs like KAMP Dovetail is a summer enrichment camp for children with special needs. Since SATH receives no state or federal funding, we rely solely on donations and fundraising events like this to operate.
We are looking for Table Sponsors, door prizes, and participants for this event. The cost is $400 to sponsor a table. You can also be a partial sponsor for $100 or more. Tickets are $125 per couple; remember, your donation is tax-deductible. Sponsors will be announced at the ball, and your name and business will be in the program and displayed on the table. We hope you will consider being a part of our Charity Ball.

Can you believe it? There are only 158 days until our week of KAMP DOVETAIL 2024. Our staff and volunteers are getting excited! I have had several calls from the camper’s parents wanting to make sure they have the registration date on their calendar. They don’t want to miss it!
This will be our 43rd year of holding this special week of KAMP DOVETAIL for some amazing young people. Our 2024 week of camp is June 17th through the 21st.
Volunteers: If you have any interest in volunteering as a Kamp Dovetail volunteer, we encourage you to attend our volunteer training meetings. If you are interested in volunteering to fill another role, please contact Linda Allen, SATH Executive Director, at 937-366-6657.
We always appreciate all the SOESC Staff who come out on Monday to help us set up, serve a meal, and help check in the campers as they arrive. If you are interested in being a part of our 2024 week of camp, we would love to have you!

Student Success Story
Congratulations Josh!
Josh is a student at Fairfield Local Schools and works with Southern Ohio ESC's Becca Wise. Becca has shared her support and congratulations for Josh.
Josh was recently recognized at the board meeting for his work doing the Morning Announcements at school and the growth and confidence he has gained in the last few years. This is his second year doing the morning announcements, and he plans on continuing to do so his junior and senior year. Josh did more than "the sign of the day," as he is involved in a few segments.
