MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Career readiness supports our students, our community
As Roseburg School District’s partnerships with Umpqua Community College and local industry leaders continue to grow, we are creating more and more opportunities for students to plan for their most successful futures.
Our staff and educators work every day to help students identify their strengths and passions, align those qualities to the real world, and gain the skills needed to earn a living wage. Career readiness starts early. That’s why we’ve developed special lessons for elementary students that provide hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering and math. Our young learners take field trips to places like forests and farms, and our teachers incorporate problem-solving challenges into classroom lessons, helping students think critically, collaborate and innovate. By exposing students to these concepts early, we’re helping them see the connection between their education and real-world careers.
Here’s the thing — we want to make sure more students can enter careers and build their lives right here in Roseburg. This community was built on timber, which for generations has shaped our economy. But if we want Roseburg to truly thrive, we must stop exporting our other greatest resource — our talent. Read more.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT: FEBRUARY CRYSTAL APPLE AWARD WINNERS
RHS and Fullerton lV Elementary staff honored
Congratulations to Roseburg High School's instructional assistant Khumbulani Moyo and math teacher Pete Hanson; and Fullerton IV Elementary’s instructional assistant Hannah Harwood and third-grade teacher Carrie Stokes-Rudsell, for earning Crystal Apple Awards for February.
Each month, a different school presents its Crystal Apple winners for recognition by our School Board, and this February, RHS and Fullerton had the honor of celebrating their outstanding staff.
FROM THE STEAM TEAM: CALLING ALL STEAMOLOGISTS!
Our Elementary School STEAM Team shares the latest updates on science, technology, engineering, arts and math education around the district.
This month, the STEAM Team is teaching students about scale and proportion through a fun 3D Art Engineering lesson. Using spaghetti and marshmallows, students draw a 3D shape and then build a model twice as big, learning how measurement and math apply to real-world structures. Through teamwork and problem-solving, they explore how objects can be scaled up or down while keeping accurate proportions. It’s a creative way to bring engineering to life in the classroom!
COMMUNITY PARTNER SHOUT-OUTS
Kinders explore the pizza industry
Thanks to Domino’s Pizza in Winston, kindergarten classes from Eastwood Elementary School toured the store, made their own pizzas and learned how the pizza chain works. They also explored 2D and 3D shapes by composing common shapes, identified US money denominations and their uses, and learned about different community jobs and services. It was a delicious way for our young learners to connect classroom concepts with real-world experiences!
