PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
We've had a great start to the new school year! It's been great to see all of our returning students and to meet some new ones. The playground is coming along and students seem to enjoy watching the trucks and the assembly of the equipment.
The Hawk Highlights is one of our main communication tools so be sure to take a look each week at the dates and information sent to you. It is typically emailed on Friday afternoons.
As always, we are here to support you in navigating your child's school experience. Don't hesitate to reach out as needed.
A new school year means new beginning, new adventures, new friendships, and new challenges. The slate is clean and anything can happen. - Denise Witmer
WELCOME TO HIGHLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!
Ms. Veronica Arends, 4th Grade Teacher
Ms. Arends joins our fourth grade team. Most recently she was teaching in a private school in Evanston. She finished her Masters Degree this past summer. She brings a lot of energy to the classroom!
Ms. Jennifer Van Ornum, Literacy Specialist
Ms. Van Ornum will be working with both students and teachers in her role as our literacy specialist. She comes to us from Waukegan where she was helping teachers meet the needs of all students, across the learning continuum. She is looking forward to working directly with students again.
Ms. Alex Rubio, Secretary
Ms. Rubio joined the front office staff over the summer. She impressed us in her interview with her kind and calm manner. She is quickly adapting to the pace of the school day, learning all of the new systems and bringing a smile to everyone who comes in the office.

INFINITE CAMPUS
We are excited to remind you about the benefits of using the Parent Portal in Infinite Campus! This powerful tool provides you with easy access to important information about your child’s school life. Here are some of the features that can help you stay informed and involved:
1. Attendance Tracking: You can easily report your child’s absences and monitor their attendance records, ensuring you stay updated on their daily presence at school.
2. Bus Routes: The portal allows you to view your child’s bus route and schedule, helping you plan and manage their transportation needs efficiently.
3. Fee Payment: Managing school-related fees has never been easier! You can pay fees directly through the portal, ensuring that all payments are made on time and conveniently.
4. Lunch Money Management: The portal also enables you to load lunch money into your child’s account, giving you peace of mind knowing that their lunch needs are taken care of.
We encourage all parents to take advantage of these features to stay connected and involved in their child’s education. If you have any questions or need assistance accessing the Parent Portal, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
HIGHLAND PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION
What does the Highland PTA do?
We seek to collaborate with the school, district, and community to:
Create opportunities to bring all families together.
Celebrate our students and staff.
Appreciate our teachers and staff.
We do this by meeting together, volunteering at school events, supporting fundraisers and more. We meet bi-monthly and have several ways to get involved and have fun!
We invite you to learn more and join us in supporting our school.
