Happy September FIVE Families!

I hope you all had a restful 3-day weekend! As we move into September we will be recognizing Attendance Awareness Month!

• Did you know that children can suffer academically if they miss 10 percent of the school year? That’s just 18 days or 2 to 3 days a month. And that can add up before you know it.
• This September FIVE Virtual Program and School District 5 of Lexington & Richland Counties is celebrating Attendance Awareness Month with a renewed push to get all kids to school—on time, every day.
• Research shows us that absences add up. That’s as true for kindergartners as it is for 12th graders. It’s as true for excused absences as it is for skipping school.
• We know there will be days when your child will miss school, especially when they’re sick. But we know that nationwide, as many as 7.5 million students miss 10 percent of the school year. That’s 135 million days of missed school – and missed opportunities. And research shows us it also marks the point when students start to fall behind academically because they have missed too many days.
• So this September, for Attendance Awareness Month, let’s work together as a community – school and business leaders, parents, students, teachers, doctors, neighbors – to get all kids to school – on time, every day. #D5EveryDay #THRIVEinFIVE

• Effective immediately, any student whose grade falls below 60% in any course will be required to attend Charge-Up, FIVE's academic assistance program. These sessions are designed to provide targeted support and resources to help students improve their understanding of course material and achieve academic success. Attendance at these sessions will continue until the student's grade improves to 60% or higher.
• Please note that if a student is failing three or more courses at the end of the quarter and has failed to attend the Charge-Up sessions, we will recommend that the student return to their homeschool. This measure is intended to ensure that all students receive the level of support they need to succeed in their academic journey.

• If your student is having trouble logging into their student portal account, please have them email me at FIVE@lexrich5.org and in the subject write Reset Student Password.

• Remember, only teachers are able to reset their class link login information.
