This month, District 30 will again offer parents online or in-person Parent-Teacher Conferences. Conference dates are:

• Wednesday, February 26 (4:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) - All Schools: Grades PK-8

• Thursday, February 27 (12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) - All Schools: Grades PK-8 (no student attendance)

IN-PERSON CONFERENCES: These will be scheduled between Monday, February 3 and Friday, February 7. If you would like to attend an in-person conference with your teacher on Wednesday evening, please contact the teacher and they will help you to schedule time with them.

ONLINE CONFERENCES: Registration will open on Monday, February 10 at 6:00 a.m. and will continue through Friday, February 21 at 3:00 p.m. Again, we will schedule online conferences through Meet The Teacher, and scheduling codes and instructions will be emailed to you on Thursday, February 6.

District 30's full-day 2025-26 kindergarten Program will be held at both Willowbrook and Wescott Schools. Kindergarten intake for the 2025-26 school year will take place online beginning on Monday, February 3 at 9:00 a.m.

To be eligible for kindergarten, your child must have been born on or before September 1, 2020, as evidenced by an official birth certificate or passport. Proof of residency in District 30 is also required, as well as the filling out of an affidavit form.

The 2025-26 District 30 Kid Connection Preschool will be held at Willowbrook School only. The preschool program is days a week for 2.5 hours a day and follows the District 30 school calendar.

Three-year-old students attend the morning class and the 4-year-old students attend in the afternoon. Preschool intake for the 2025-26 school year will take place online beginning on Monday, February 3 at 9:00 a.m.

Following the intake process, the enrollment phase will begin May 1 and further details will be shared here and on our website at district30.org.

Registration will go live at 10:00 am on Wednesday, February 5. Please refer to our registration page for helpful information that walks you through how to register your student(s).

On the summer school website there will be a button to click that will bring you to our registration website. Please note that the registration button will not be clickable until 10:00 a.m. and you may need to refresh the website page.

The District 30 2023-24 Annual Report will be mailed to all residents in the district starting next week, to inform everyone of district developments whether or not they have children in our schools.

February is Black History Month, honoring the achievements of African Americans and recognizing their central role in U.S. history. The 2025 theme, “African Americans and Labor," focuses on the ways that "work and working of all kinds—free and unfree, skilled, and unskilled, vocational and voluntary—intersect with the collective experiences of Black people," according to history.com.

Erin’s Law, House Bill 6193 was signed by Governor Pat Quinn on January 24, 2013. This law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades Pre-K through 12. District 30 has purchased the “Be Seen and Be Heard 2.0” video program from Victor Pacini, a survivor of sexual abuse, an author, songwriter, singer, and motivational speaker. Mr. Pacini has assisted our schools in implementing this mandate for the past 10 years.

Mr. Pacini’s program is developmentally appropriate, interactive, and aligned with learning standards. The focus of his presentation is to teach children basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. Parents may wish to view an overview of the program at Childhood Victories.

The Wescott presentation date will be Thursday, February 6, for all grades.

The Wescott PTO Diverse Books Committee and Wescott LMC is excited to announce author Clothilde Ewing will be visiting K - 2nd graders on Friday, February 21, 2025.

Ms. Ewing is a Chicago based author who will be reading her latest book Stella and Roger Can’t Wait to Grow Up. This is Ms. Ewing’s third children’s book about Stella - the exuberant and clever heroine of the series. With the winter weather more students are driven to and from school, thus causing more traffic congestion before and after school. Students may only be dropped off or picked up in front of the school building along the curb of the circular drive. If students are dropped off on a side street across from Wescott, they must cross with the crossing guard.

Students should arrive at school no earlier than 8:30 a.m. There is no playground supervision until that time. Students who walk to school should cross with the crossing guard at Techny and Western, Brentwood and Western, Dehne and Western, or Farnsworth and Western Avenues.

Please do not cross at any other intersection during pick up and drop off.

Cars may not be parked in the circle drive or parking spaces before, during or after drop off or pick up times: 8:00-9:00 a.m. and 3:00-3:40 p.m.

• During the busy drop off/pick up times, all traffic must enter the drive from the north. No left turns or traffic from the east is allowed into the circle drive during the drop off and pick up times. Cars must wait in one line alongside Wescott Park to enter the drive.
• The crosswalk must be left open at all times; cars should wait behind the intersection to enter the circle drive.
• The traffic flow to use to enter the line of cars waiting on Western Avenue is to take Fieldwood to Farnsworth to Western. PLEASE DO NOT CUT INTO THE TRAFFIC LINE FROM OTHER STREETS.
• Cars should not make U-turns in the middle of the street or turn around in resident's driveways.
• No traffic is allowed in the parking lot during drop off and pick up times.

Wescott has a “no food or drink” birthday celebration practice. We want our students to know other ways to celebrate birthdays besides treats.

If you want your child to bring something in for their birthday, we encourage you to donate a book to our library through the PTO Birthday Book Club. You can also send school supplies such as pencils, erasers, stickers, bookmarks, etc.

Please do not send paper birthday invitations to school. The use of electronic invitations through our PTO directory is suggested.

Please call the front office to let us know of any changes in pick up practices for your student. As a reminder the tot lot is not a part of Wescott grounds and is not supervised during arrival and dismissal times.

In our Wescott and District 30 community, we value open communication and community collaboration. We have best success when partnering with parents on student concerns.

We are noticing a concerning trend of inappropriate language use among our students. Much of this language appears to be influenced by content on social media platforms, particularly TikTok. We know that our community, parents and faculty, believe that maintaining a respectful and positive school environment is crucial for all children's well-being and academic success.

While we understand the popularity of these platforms among young people, it's important to guide our children in using appropriate language, regardless of what they may encounter online. We kindly ask for your support in reinforcing appropriate language use at home. Please:

1. Discuss with your child the importance of using respectful words and the potential impact of inappropriate language on others.

2. Monitor your child's social media use, particularly on platforms like TikTok.

3. Encourage critical thinking about the content they consume online and how it might influence their behavior.

Any time a student feels unsafe, any adult in their school can help!

But sometimes, students or parents wish to reach out for help in a different way or after school hours. Safe2Help Illinois offers students a safe way to share information 24/7 that might help prevent any threat to school safety, including bullying, self-harm or other serious concerns.

The goal of this program is to get students to “seek help before harm;" it is not intended to suspend, expel, or punish. Safe2Help Illinois also offers a Mental Health Toolkit that provides resources for parents and educators reinforce the components of this program.
