Quarter 4: March 18th, 2025

Updates
New Updates
- Welcome to our last quarter of 5th grade!
- If you haven't heard yet, it has now been confirmed by the district that Borton will for sure have a 6th grade next year. We are hoping to have 2 teachers but currently do not have enough students signed up. Therefore, I am still unsure if I will stay a 5th grade teacher or continue on to 6th with these students.
- Report cards go home today and can be accessed through Synergy ParentView. Please check with me if you have any questions.
- State testing begins this week. As always, please make sure your student gets a good night's sleep, eats a healthy breakfast, and arrives to school on time. I will not be providing food during testing. Dates for each test are listed under the calendar below.
- FYI, the Camp Cooper field trip next week on Tuesday doesn't end until 5pm! This means all students will need to be picked up from the front office at 5pm, as there will not be any busses running this late. (Kidco students can still go to Kidco). If we are not expected to be on time, I will send a message on ClassDojo.
- Are you interested in taking the rats home during school breaks? If so, please fill out this form or use the QR code below: https://forms.office.com/r/SLVRh7hk1q
Old Updates
- Make sure to check ClassDojo periodically or keep it as an app on your phone. This is my main method of parent/guardian communication.
- Please give your student a reusable water bottle for school use with their name on it. These can be kept in the classroom. Please, no single-use water bottles! I am happy to buy a reusable water bottle for anyone that needs one, please let me know.
- If your student enjoys eating ice, please allow them to keep a cup in the classroom, or they may use their water bottle if the opening is wide enough.
- It can get chilly in our classroom, so students may keep a sweatshirt here if they would like. Students may also keep a pair of slippers to wear while in the classroom.
- At Borton, we celebrate birthdays at the end of every month. If you would ever like to bring in treats for the class to celebrate your student's birthday, please wait until the last Friday of the month.

Info for Field Trip Chaperones
Before attending field trips, you must:
- Fill out the online TUSD volunteer form. The link is in ClassDojo. This will take about 2 weeks to get approved.
- Let your classroom teacher know which trip you would like to chaperone at least 2 weeks before the date of the trip.
- Be aware that any field trips you attend may have extra fees for chaperones. TUSD and PTA does not pay for chaperones. Please bring money or cards with.
- Discuss with the classroom teacher whether you will take the bus or drive yourself, and be aware that if the bus is full, you will need to drive yourself.
Lastly, I want to again thank all chaperones for helping us out. These field trips couldn't be done without you!

Homework
Students now have 2 pages of mandatory homework each week. This will be one math page (front and back) and one ELA page (front and back). Homeworks are always due the next week on Tuesday.
Borton students are expected to read for 20 minutes every day. In addition, students are expected to practice their multiplication operations every day. Knowing their multiplication tables will be the key to 5th grade math, and students who have memorized them will have it much easier.
Unfinished classwork can be sent home as homework sometimes, as well as project work.
Students will also always be given math books throughout the year to have at home that correlate with what we are learning in class. Please save these books for use in math practice at home.
