KEY NEWS FOR EXPLORER FAMILIES
We still need Northwood families to complete the annual parent perception survey. As of today, we have had 9% of families submit. While the district and school board will review the components that relate to the overall district, our Northwood School Governance Council will review the Northwood specific data so we can make impactful changes or maintain our practices. We want to make sure to capture a larger percentage of survey participants to be able to see trends. Members of our SGC will be publicizing around neighborhoods as well as during the November All Pro Dads meeting and the Thanksgiving Feasts to continue to promote the opportunity to take the survey. If you have any questions about the survey, please do not hesitate to contact me. The link is here Annual Parent Perception Survey.
Monday is Veterans Day – please help us honor our nations Veterans by wearing red, white, and blue on the 11th. Also, each day next week we will have Northwood All Pro Dads in the carpool line ready to collect canned food donations to support North Fulton Community Charities. Check out the link below that indicates the items of greatest need - the All Pro Dads team will be out there to collect the donations right through the car window. If you don't do carpool, but still want to participate, the APD team will accept donations at the meeting Friday morning as well.
With gratitude,
Heather Rucker, principal
SECOND GRADE EXPLORERS
Second grade had so much fun during Pumpkin Math last week! Students worked in groups to estimate the weight, height, and circumference of the pumpkins. They also estimated how many seeds their pumpkin had inside. Then, students worked together to measure the pumpkin using rulers, scales, and measuring tape to see if their estimates were correct! They counted all of the seeds and finally carved a design into their pumpkin with the help of parent volunteers! Students had so much fun doing math with pumpkins 🎃!
THIRD GRADE EXPLORERS
Third grade wants to give a giant THANK YOU to the Northwood PTA. We wrote a mini grant for games that students can play during indoor recess and they were happy to help! Students can choose from lots of board games, STEM games, art projects and card games the next time the weather turns rainy or it's too cold to go outside.
BOOSTERTHON FUN RUN WRAP UP
Thank you for your support in making this year's Boosterthon Fun Run a huge success! Everyone adapted wonderfully to moving the event to the fall and to all of the logistical changes. We appreciate your flexibility! This year Northwood Elementary School exceeded our goal, raising more than $53,000 to go towards School Wide Enhancements! We are always excited when registrations and donations remain at a high level; and appreciate that so many students are engaged and involved.
A special thank you to all our volunteers and to our Northwood Foundation Members - Faisal Siddiqui, Loren Akin, Sue Ellen Brown, Jeremy Thomas, Megan Larkins, Nicole Elstad and Principal Rucker. We appreciate all of your hard work!
OCTOBER PBIS CELEBRATION
Is there a better way to celebrate all the positive things the students did through the month of October than a Glow Party on Halloween? No way! Students enjoyed this fun-filled PBIS celebration in the gym that was turned into a glow in the dark oasis! Students in grades K-5 got together with their friends and danced, wore glow bracelets and necklaces, and got creative with different ways to play with balloons. Students also got to play glow in the dark games like checkers, cards and Jenga. One of the best parts was since the students were all dressed up for Halloween, some of their costumes became a glowing part of the fun! Students had so much fun celebrating following the PBIS expectations they did not want it to end!
