9th Grade Assembly
Dear Parent/Guardian:
In early June, we will be hosting an assembly during the school day for 9th graders. Guest Sterlen Barr, a motivational speaker and the owner of Rapping About Prevention, Inc. (RAP) will provide a program entitled, “The Choice is Yours” which deals with teenagers making good choices that will lead them to success and fulfilling their dreams. (Mr. Barr’s biography and the full program description are below.)
Prior to each school’s presentation, a parent assembly will be held in order for families to hear the same information that will be provided at the student assembly. This is also an opportunity to ask questions and gain an understanding of additional resources available to educate and support their students.
Assemblies:
North Caroline High School parent assembly: Monday, June 3, 6:00 pm (Auditorium)
North Caroline High School student assembly: Tuesday, June 4, 1:00 pm
Colonel Richardson High School parent assembly: Tuesday, June 4, 6:00 pm (Auditorium)
Colonel Richardson High School student assembly: Wednesday, June 5, 8:30 am
Program Description:
"The Choice is Yours," is a highly interactive and thought-provoking program that specifically addresses sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unwanted pregnancy. The speaker stresses to students how important it is to stay focused on their dreams and plans, and not allow poor decisions to stop them from achieving their goals.
The program includes the latest research, statistics, and information not commonly found online or in classrooms, and presents them in a way that is personal, powerful, and effective. The presentation includes role-playing, participant participation, and a live rap and dance performance. The speaker promotes being a leader, delaying sexual activity, and finding one’s true passion.
The parents’ program includes a discussion about having a relationship with your children where they trust you enough to share information about any relationship they may have with another person and additional resources available for parents.
Speaker Bio:
Sterlen Barr is a motivational speaker with over 25 years of experience helping to motivate and inspire youth to live their best life by making healthy choices.
