Sea Turtle Scoop
SHES Weekly Newsletter for September 1st - September 10th
Sea Turtles that READ are Sea Turtles that LEAD
This week please be sure to check in with your Sea Turtle and their teacher about monthly Reading Log expectations. Students and their families are expected to monitor and record daily reading. Depending on your child's grade level, they may be able to record that information independently and you simply need to confirm it is occurring. Depending on your child's reading ability, they may need you to read to them or have you listen to them read for a short time each day. Please know that establishing these early reading habits can build a successful reader for life!
Students who turn in 7 of 8 monthly reading logs for this school year will be invited to participate in a celebration at the end of the school year with Ms. Palmer and Mrs. Stryker!
Use this week's Sea Turtle Scoop as a resource to help your student develop positive reading habits. Remember, reading is not just for bedtime, it's for pleasure, enjoyment and to learn about something!
As always parents, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free anytime to contact the front office or e-mail me directly at palmerce@pcsb.org. I'll see you around campus! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Cecilia Palmer, Principal

Rescheduled Picture Day -- Wednesday , October 11th
Mrs. Yowler's Counseling Corner:
Hello!
As your school counselor, I like to tell students that I am adding life “tools” to their tool belts. We have three main “tool belts” that we add to all year – our “Friend” belt (social skills), our “Student” belt (academic skills), and our “Person/Self” belt (career and social-emotional skills). My goal is for your child to have all the tools they need to become the best friend they can be to others, the best student they can be, and the best person (self) they can be by they time they leave for middle school.
This month we are focusing on building and strengthening our classroom and school community. Our character trait for the month is “Citizenship.” Students will be reading about how they can be good citizens and help to keep our school a welcoming and safe learning environment. A big highlight of the month is Start With Hello Week (September 18th-22nd).
Start With Hello is a training by Sandy Hook Promise that raises awareness and educates students about social isolation and how to create a connected and inclusive classroom, school, and community.
To help facilitate discussion and raise awareness, we have planned theme spirit days throughout the week. Your student will participate in classroom discussions that encourage them to reach out and build new friendships. School-wide activities include choosing a favorite way or signature style to say “Hello,” spreading kind words to others around the school, and learning “Hello” in a different language, including sign language! On Wednesday, September 20th, students are encouraged to wear green in support of spreading kindness at our school.
Questions to ask your child during Start With Hello Week:
- Have you ever felt lonely, left out, excluded, isolated or ignored? What made you feel better?
- What is your favorite way to say “hello” in another language?
- What are some ways to show kindness to someone we don’t know?
- How have you been spreading kindness in your classroom? At school?
