Summer 2024
Dear Memorial Families,
Thank you for your support and collaboration this year. It has been an amazing year for Memorial students and staff. Thank you to all who spent their time and talents helping us. And a big special thanks to the PTO Executive Board. You truly are a dedicated group of parents and we could not do all that we do without you!
The 7th Habit of Stephen Covey's 7 Habits for Happy Kids is "Sharpen the Saw." Sharpening the Saw is all about finding balance in order to be happy and healthy. The summer break is a great time for students and families to find a balance for the body, heart, mind and soul.
Please encourage your child keep his/her mind sharp by reading and writng over the summer. Students who do not read and write can lose up to two grade levels of skills. Math facts and handwriting are always things to also practice.
With Great Respect,
Mrs. Debra Misecko, Principal
Coming in July - Emergency Response Training at Memorial
The Valparaiso Police Department, Valparaiso Fire Department, and other local emergency responders, in conjunction with the Valparaiso Community Schools, would like to inform our school community of training that will take place on July 15th, 16th, and 17th at Memorial. The safety drills will be conducted on each of these days from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Additionally, the Valparaiso Police Department will be conducting police only training on July 8th, 9th, 18th, and 19th from Noon to 8:00 PM.
There will be an increase of emergency response vehicles in the area on these dates. We know you all keep a close eye on our building and didn’t want you to have any undue concerns if you drove by. Quite the opposite, our emergency personnel are simply using the time without students in our building to best assure our safety.

HABIT #7 - Sharpen the Saw
Memorial continues to focus on sharing The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Dr. Stephen Covey. We will talk about one of the 7 Habits each month. The April habit is Habit #7 - Students are taught that "Sharpen the Saw" means "Balance is best.". For more information please read more from Dr. Stephen Covey's website.
PTO
Memorial has awesome parents and PTO. We couldn't do what we do at school without you. As a Memorial parent/guardian you are a member of PTO. We hope you can make some meetings, meet other Memorial parents, and volunteer your time and talents. Even if you cannot make the meetings, there are other ways to be a part of PTO. If interested, you may reach out to one of the 23-24 Executive Board Officers:
President - Malorie Medellin
Vice President - Tracee McMahon and Amber Strunk
Treasurer - Megan Taylor
Secretary - Casandra Heeren
Stay tuned for more information coming about 23-24 PTO events. They will be shared in the Memorial Newsletter, on the Memorial Elementary PTO Facebook page, and the Memorial PTO Website.
