Growing a well rounded student is the focus for this week with this gardening/insects theme. Check out our weekly challenges and join in the fun.

Pre-K - 2nd Grade
Pre-K- 2nd Grade: Bugs, Bugs Everywhere!
With your grown up, go on a nature walk. Look for bugs. Then, draw and write about what you saw on your walk. You can also read and talk about gardening and insects books.
Pre-K- 2nd Grade: NZMaths - The Garden
Conduct investigations using the statistical enquiry cycle: posing and answering questions; gathering, sorting and counting, and displaying category data; discussing the results.
Pre-K- 2nd Grade: Extraordinary Gardens!
Make a map of a real or imaginary garden. Plot a compass course through the garden.
Pre-K- 2nd Grade: Birdhouse Design
Bird's can be really good for some gardens. Design a birdhouse using recycle materials.
Pre-K- 2nd Grade: Taking a Mindful Walk Outside
Go on a mindful walk. Ask your child to take account of what they sense as you walk around your town. Taking the time to determine what you see, smell, feel and hear will help ground you in the moment. Have your child focus on using one of their senses at a time in order to help them narrow their focus.

3rd-5th Grade: Entomologist Expert
Grab your paper and pencil, you're on an adventure to study insects!
3rd-5th Grade: Entomologist Expert 2
Make a bar graph of the types of insects you found in the "Entomologist Expert" activity above. Write questions that can be answered by looking at your graph and ask family members to answer your questions.
3rd-5th Grade: Extraordinary Gardens!
Make a map of a real or imaginary garden. Plot a compass course through the garden. Draw the latitude and longitude lines. In your garden drawing, what would you plant and when? Research the different growing seasons.
3rd-5th Grade: Grow Food From Scraps
Research: Can you grow any of the fruits or vegetables in your pantry or fridge from their scraps? After you research, share the results with your family. You may even try to grow one of the foods you researched!

Summer Reading Bingo Challenge
What is your favorite genre? Historical fiction is a great genre if you like stories set in events that have happened. Beginning readers might like Ranger in time or I Survived series. Older students might enjoy books by Kirby Larson or Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. Want some suggestions for the genre you like? Workout Challenge: 1-minute plank
Can you plank for 1 minute? Shorter? Longer? Give it a try like this week's mystery person. The mystery challenge taker loves sock monkeys and caught Mr. Turner and Mr. Swope sleeping in the mystery person's office.
