Message from the Superintendent
Dear Emery Unified community,
I am thrilled to share exciting updates about the achievements of our students and staff that exemplify the drive for knowledge and success that our students and staff possess.
In celebration of Black History Month, the California School Boards Association highlighted the increase in test scores and decrease in chronic absence among our African American students. As a school district, we are proud of this achievement, and we celebrate the progress of our students and staff, and their commitment to excellence.
Our speech and debate partnership with the Bay Area Urban Debate League was featured on KTVU, with two of our students explaining how the program has inspired their dreams for college, career, and beyond. Our students involved in art and music are excited to share their talents in upcoming showcases. Our seniors are waiting to hear back from colleges and trade schools they applied for, and our younger students are preparing to take the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP).
We are also celebrating continued campus improvements, including solar panel updates and new community spaces. It’s a wonderful time for Emery Unified. We are thankful for our community’s support of our students and their big dreams for the future. Be sure to stay connected with us for more fun updates.
Sincerely,
Dr. Quiauna Scott
Superintendent

Celebrating the Grand Opening of the Teen Center
We celebrated the grand opening of the new Teen Center in the Emeryville Center of Community Life (ECCL) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This innovative space, furnished by IKEA, will serve as a modern study and collaboration hub for students.
The Teen Center has been thoughtfully redesigned to support after-school programs and will eventually be available for public rental as a community center, offering a unique space for various activities and events. Check out a recap of the celebration!
Bay Area Urban Debate League Updates
Emery students Ellyana and Jordan discussed their debate experience with Bay Area Urban Debate League (BAUDL) on KTVU Fox 2! We are proud to work in partnership with BAUDL and provide this opportunity for students to gain critical skills and share their voice.

Black History Month
Emery Unified School District proudly celebrates Black History Month! On Wednesday, February 26, we hosted a Black History Month assembly to honor the legacy, courage, and brilliance of Black trailblazers.
In the EUSD library, students studied Dr. Mae Jemison, the first African-American woman to travel into space! Check out the portraits students decorated in the photos below.

“Are You Returning?” Survey
We kindly ask all parents and guardians to complete the Are You Returning survey. This important survey helps us plan for the upcoming school year by confirming enrollment and ensuring we can provide the best resources and support for every student. Your timely response is greatly appreciated and will assist us in making informed decisions about essential preparations. Thank you for your cooperation!
Solar Panel Update
PG&E were on-site February 21 to connect the solar panels to power! This project is expected to be completed by mid to late March. We are excited to take the next step in our eco-friendly initiatives!
Emeryville Police Department Cybersecurity Event
Emery High School recently held an assembly in partnership with the Emeryville Police Department about cybersecurity and social media safety. The presentation provided valuable information about how to protect personal information and navigate the online world responsibly. Thank you, Sergeant Montoya, for the guidance!
Immigration Resources
We are dedicated to protecting all students and families, and making sure they feel safe, welcome, and supported at school every day. All children in the United States have the right to a free public education, without regard to their or their families’ citizenship status, as upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in Plyler v. Doe (1982). This includes access to:
- Enrollment without providing immigration-related documents.
- Confidentiality of personal and family information.
- Participation in all school programs and activities without discrimination.
We are truly grateful for the trust our community has placed in our school district. For students and families who need more information or support, we have included a list of local legal resources that can help our immigrant community, as well as tips on creating a family preparedness plan. No matter what challenges arise, we are ready to face them together with our community. We will continue working to make sure that Emery Unified School District is a safe and welcoming place where all students can succeed without fear.
