How to build relationships with students
REDUCING BEHAVIOR WITH S.T.O.I.C
The ABC Committee is aiming to reduce the amount of Level 1 Referrals through the use of S.T.O.I.C.
S. Structure school setting for success.
Effective teachers carefully structure settings in ways to promote responsible student behavior.
T. Teach (and re-teach) behavioral expectations to students.
Those who know better do better. Teach your students how to behave responsibly and respectfully.
O. Observe and monitor.
Monitor closely. Use proximity as a tool.
I. Interact Positively with students.
Maintain a high ratio of positive interactions. Focus on the behaviors you want to see repeated.
C. Correct fluently.
Respond fluently, calmly, and consistently. Use preplanned one-liners if necessary
THE UNIVERSAL 5 CLASSROOM RULES :TAUGHT TO 4TH GRADE DURING BEHAVIOR BASH
- Many of us tell our students to follow our directions( Most infractions are written are #4-following directions)
RULE 2:RAISE YOUR HAND FOR PERMISSION TO SPEAK
- DO you have constant shout-outs from students
RULE 3: RAISE YOUR HAND FOR PERMISSION TO LEAVE YOUR SEAT
- Do you have students who leave their seat to ask you something or to move around without your permission
- Do you have students who hit others or do things they know they're not suppose to do?
RULE 5:KEEP MY DEAR TEACHER HAPPY
- We come to school already happy. When students break rules 1-4, it makes us less happy. (Careful rule doesn't say to make us happy but to keep us happy)
