News from Eli Terry
Week of September 8th, 2023
You Don't Want to Miss This!
We're thrilled to announce a brand new approach to Open House this year, designed to provide a comprehensive and accessible experience for all our families!
Join us for an interactive Open House evening where you and your child(ren) can embark on a learning adventure together! Participate in fun activities that directly connect to what your child is learning in school, giving you valuable tools to practice and reinforce concepts at home.
We will share with all of our families via email and post on our school webpage the traditional teacher presentations that you typically expect to see on this night.
We’re excited to continue "Terrier Tuesdays," a special spirit day dedicated to celebrating our school community!
Every Tuesday, beginning next week, students, staff, and families are encouraged to wear their Eli Terry spirit wear, school colors, or dog-themed clothing to show off their school pride.
Terrier Tuesday has become a favorite way to foster a sense of belonging and connection among our students and staff, allowing everyone to feel part of our Eli Terry family.
Let’s come together, celebrate our Terrier spirit, and make every Tuesday a reminder of how much we love our school!
Need/want some new spirit gear? The PTO has you covered all year long! Check out the options below!
Ask Your Child(ren) About...
PAWS expectations!
At Eli Terry, PAWS are the tenets of our shared behavioral expectations and provide a clear and consistent framework for how we expect all students to conduct themselves. Having a set of shared expectations with a common language helps create a positive and predictable environment where students know what is expected of them across all areas and aspects of the school environment.
Just as we explicitly teach, model, and reinforce academic skills, we believe we must do the same with behavioral expectations. This approach ensures that students receive the guidance and support they need to make positive choices, feel safe, and thrive both socially and academically.
By reinforcing PAWS, we empower students to develop the social-emotional skills essential for success inside and outside the classroom.
Some questions to engage your child(ren) in a conversation about PAWS:
- What does the P, A, W, and S stand for? (there's a handy "cheat sheet" below)
- What does P/A/W/S look like:
- in the classroom?
- in the hallway?
- in the cafeteria?
- on the bus?
- on the playground?
- Which PAWS expectation has been easy for you to follow?
- Which PAWS expectation is a challenge for you to follow?
- What happens when you do follow PAWS expectations?
- What happens when you do not follow PAWS expectations?
- What would PAWS look like at home? on the sports field? at a birthday party?
Thanks to the tremendous response over the past 2 years, we are continuing our Eli Terry Community “Shout Out” initiative!
We encourage every member of our school (staff and parents/families) to practice gratitude by sharing their appreciation(s) for any member of our ET community. It may be another colleague, parent/family member, district employee, or a student, etc.) who has done something that deserves a "shout out".
“Shout outs” can be submitted quickly and easily using the Google Form linked below and "shout outs" will be celebrated during staff meetings/PTO meetings, over morning announcements, on our monitor displays, or in "shout out" cards throughout the school year.
We ask that your family take a minute to reflect on the first 7 days of the school year. Who is someone who has made your "back to school" just a little brighter, easier, or more fun?! Appreciate that person by submitting a shout out below!
Volunteer Opportunity
Have a green thumb?
Looking for a volunteer opportunity?
Our courtyard beautification "committee" is looking for some help afterschool next Monday, from 4-5PM.
If you'd like to help weed and give the courtyard a "back to school" cleanup, we'd love to have you! Just email Mrs. Hammer!
2024-2025 PTO Family Directory
Each year the PTO coordinates a Student/Family Directory. This is OPTIONAL but, if you would like your child's address/phone number/e-mail included please fill out the Google Form below.
*NOTE: A separate form for each child in the family will need to be completed.
Teachers/Administrators/Staff are NOT allowed to give out this information so, this is a great way to be able to schedule play dates, birthday parties, etc.
This form will be open for submissions until October 14, 2024. At that time, the form will be closed and the family directory will be put together and distributed electronically to all Eli Terry Families. The form will then re-open again at the beginning of January 2025 for any new submissions and be re-published.

Thank you!
A Peek Inside Our Week
To celebrate this summer's Olympics, our second grade team "went for the gold" on our first day back!
4th graders in Mrs. Conyer's class practiced productive struggle: sticking with something challenging to prove to themselves they could do it! Students stacked and unstacked cups, all without touching the cups with their hands!
Kindergartners in Mrs. Kukucka's class learned how to take care of some new tools (dry erase mat, marker, and eraser) and used these new tools to practice writing their names.
Twin sisters, Emma and Madelyn Giroux, were so excited to be reunited after a busy day of learning!
First graders Arya and Sammy explore some math tools together!
3rd graders in Mrs. Siddiqui's class were all smiles on the first day of school!
Kindergarten students practiced their number recognition by playing a game with a partner!
