Lake Orion High School
March 4, 2024

Good Afternoon Lake Orion Students and Families,
With only 11 weeks of school left, things are going to start moving much quicker for all of us. There are many things that go into the excitement and anticipation for the end of the school year, state testing, senior activities, spring sports, the spring musical, national competitions, and school projects. April and May are certainly the busiest time of year for all of our students.
Of course, the warm weather is also something that we all look forward to. With that in mind, the LOHS Admin team would like to remind our families of our dress code policy. Below you will find excerpts about student dress that appear in the Student Handbook. For the entire text of the dress code, please refer to pages 66-67.
1. LANGUAGE AND IMAGES: Inappropriate language, signs, symbols, or images worn on clothing shall be prohibited. This shall include, but not be limited to, any message or image, which expresses profanity or obscenity, or which makes derogatory comments or implications regarding any race, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin, all gang-identifying symbols, and other items determined by the administration to be unsafe, illegal, or inappropriate for school, and any material which encourages illegal substance use/abuse, and/or violence; or any attire that disrupts the school environment.
3. CLOTHING FIT AND COVERAGE Attire must be worn in such a manner that is appropriate to a professional educational environment. Inappropriately worn clothing, i.e., pants or shorts worn below the waistline, is prohibited. Backless or string back tops, tank tops, halter tops, spaghetti straps, low cut tops, open backs, and muscle shirts are not acceptable. i.e. at least to fingertips. Any rips or holes in pants or skirts must be below fingertip-length.
Over the next few weeks, and continuing until the end of the school year, any student in violation of the dress code policy will be sent to the office to speak to an assistant principal. Students will then be given the option of changing their clothes (we have school-appropriate shirts and pants) or calling home to have parents bring in school-appropriate clothing. Repeat offenders will be subject to student discipline.
Thank you for your help and support in this matter, and I hope you and your students have a great end to the school year.
Sincerely,
LOHS Administration

SUMMER AI PROGRAMMING

Students Serving the Community - Community Drives
Free Tutoring
Dear LOHS Parents,
Lake Orion High School is extremely excited to announce a continuation of our free tutoring program. This program will allow your child to connect directly with LOHS staff in specific content areas (math, science, social studies, etc.) outside of normal school hours. These tutoring sessions are one hour and can take place either in person or virtually through Microsoft Teams (this is decided between the tutor and the student(s) in the group). This tutoring is intended as remediation as opposed to homework help; however, homework is often utilized to teach skills. As we do not have an inexhaustible number of tutors available, this program is on a first come, first serve basis.
To sign up your child, please fill out this form.
If you have additional questions, please contact Cathy Srock at Catherine.Srock@LOk12.org.
SERVICE HOURS SPOTLIGHT
Service hours must be completed through a non-profit organization or event that benefits the community and should focus on making a positive impact on others. Students may not complete service hours by “helping” in a business as free labor. Additionally, students may not choose to not be paid and count that as service hours, such as babysitting and animal care. Please review Rules and Regulations of Hours on the LOHS Service Learning website.
