Chapel
Pastor Aaron Brown from Maranatha Free Church spoke at our chapel this week. He began by sharing that he loves to compete in sports. A passage in 1 Corinthians 9 talks about competing. Verse 24 says, "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it."
Pastor Aaron then shared the story of Elijah. God told Elijah that he was going to send a drought. God supernaturally took care of Elijah, sending ravens with bread and meat to feed him, and God provided water with a nearby brook. Following this, Elijah visited a widow who was almost out of food, but God supernaturally filled the widow's jug of oil and jar of flour during the entire drought. The widow's son died, and God raised him from the dead. Elijah experienced God working in miraculous ways over and over again.
Elijah knew that the leaders prayed to a false god, Baal. So, he proposed a contest between the one true God and their false god. They both built an altar and prayed that fire would come from the sky. Elijah even drenched his altar with water. The false god did not answer the prayers. The false god is not even alive. Our real God heard and answered, and He sent fire. 1 Kings 18:38, "Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench." What a privilege that we can pray to the one true God who is able to do more than we can ask or imagine.

Constitution Assembly

2. The Constitution is in place to protect the people and limit the government's authority
The Declaration of Independance states, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
John Adams said, “Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” As Christians, we have the opportunity to shine for Christ and live morally. God could use us to make a difference.
We started the assembly by recognizing Ascension Academy parent Karin Olson. Karin just became a United States citizen! Congratulations, Karin!

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Bible Class
Students will be reading Book Five, Psalms 107-150. Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible. It is a song about God’s inspired Word. Take some time to discuss what a gift Scripture is to us!

Whom does Psalm 110 look forward to? How can you tell?
Can we triumph if God is not with us? (Psalm 127:1) How does God feel about children? (Psalm 127:3-5)
What is the theme of Psalm 136? How is God’s steadfast love demonstrated?
Psalm 150 instructs us on worshiping the Lord. What would this kind of worship look like? What would the mood be?
