Midtown Safety
Safety is our number one prioirty at Midtown. We are thrilled to share that we will be staffed with an SRO and two security guards this year.
After morning carline ends, there will only be one entrance and exit option at Midtown. This will be by the guard shack. Upon entry, the security guard will ask your need to be on campus.
We lock our playground on evenings and weekends. Unfortunately, there has previously been damage to our playground. Our priority is to keep our playground and grounds safe and functioning well for our students.
We feel encouraged and thankful for these many efforts to keep Midtown as safe as possible.
Midtown Facility Dog-Daryl!
Midtown Elementary School is very thrilled to partner with Service Dogs of Alabama and the Alabama State Department of Education by having a trained facility dog at Midtown. Daryl is our four legged best friend. Daryl is a Labradoodle!
Uses of a facility dog at Midtown Elementary
- Helps reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression
- Helps process grief and loss
- Helps students open up about issues impacting them emotionally/academically
- Helps students with social communication difficulties to improve social skills
- Helps students with sensory integration needs to improve language production and social interaction
- Helps reluctant readers improve fluency
- Helps make the school a more welcoming and inviting place
- Helps increase overall staff and and student morale and positive connection to school
Please click here to fill out the Facility Dog Opt Out Form. This is only if you do not want your child to participate with Daryl.
Midtown PTA
Our Midtown PTA is phenomenal and a wonderful way to connect to our school! Please click here to join. We would love for as many families as possible to join!
Madison City School Year Calendar
Please view the school year calendar attached below. Please plan vacation plans during the provided breaks throughout the school year. It is extremely important that your child is in school as much as possible. Please view our Midtown Attendance Procedures below. Thank you for your help with this as it is vital to your child's education!
Background Check Link
If you are interested in chaperoning field trips and some additional supervising volunteer opportunities, a background check will be required. Please click here to access the link. It takes time to process and needs to be renewed yearly. I would encourage you to complete this as soon as possible!
Morning and Afternoon Car line Information
- Morning car line is from 7:10-7:40. Class begins at 7:40, so please arrive no later than 7:35. Please have your child sit on the right side of the vehicle and be ready to exit the vehicle as soon as the cars stop within the loop. If the student is able to get out of the vehicle once the cars are stopped and the staff gives the signal, we would like to highly encourage them to do so. Please drive with purpose as the staff is waving you forward. In the morning carline, please make sure your car is in PARK when stopped. This is VERY important for student safety. Thank you for your help!
- Please only enter for carline from Landers or Plaza. Car line entry is at the guard shack directly off of Coefer Blvd. All cars entering the car line should be turning right off of Coefer or proceeding straight across from Landers. There should be no left turns into the car line from Coefer. Please review the diagram below.
- The Kroger parking lot or front office parking lot are not approved drop off locations for students. This becomes a safety concern as staff are only expecting students to be bus riders, walkers, or be dropped off through the carline. We will have staff monitoring this as we want to make sure all students are safe. Thank you for your help!
- Afternoon Car line will begin around 2:45pm. Please follow the staff directions and do not switch lanes once directed. This will only result in longer wait times for all vehicles. The students are input into a system and there is a purpose for the lane you are directed in.
- Any pick up that does not have a carline number will be sent to the front office. Thank you for your understanding!
Bus Information
Mr. Holmes previously shared GPS tracking information. Please check your email for this information. This email came from Mrs. Pat Baldwin. The Edulog APP is the yellow one. The Midtown code is: 09858039. Please remember if your app is not working properly to restart it.
Walker Information
- Please make sure you live in the neighborhoods surrounding the school such as Cottonwood or Park Meadow to be a walker. Please do not pick up from April Dawn Drive if you do not reside in Cottonwood.
- We would like to discourage any families that are using the Kroger parking lot as a drop off and/or pick up. The crossing guard is allowing the students to cross Wall Triana, therefore we do not feel this Kroger option is safe. Thank you for your understanding of this.
- The crossing guard will only be at Wall Triana and Coefer until 7:40am. If you choose to walk your child, we wanted to make sure you were aware of this.
Park Meadow Walkers: In the afternoon, please be prepared to meet your child on the sidewalk where the crossing guard is located at the intersection of Wall Triana and Coefer.
April Dawn/Cottonwood Walkers: In the afternoon, please be prepared to meet your child by the gate closest to the neighborhood near carline.
Birthday Celebrations
We strongly encourage one of these options to best celebrate your child:
- A nonedible treat such as a bouncy ball, slinky, sticker.
- A store bought prepackaged treat, not to include cupcakes.
- A popsicle if allowable by your child's teacher.
Unfortunately, we will not allow or suggest cupcakes to celebrate your child's birthday. Please also know the above options are completely optional and absolutely not required. Thank you for your understanding!
