Principal's Message
Welcome back to our Winter Wonderland at Greenmont Elementary School! I hope everyone enjoyed their break and were able to have fun and stay warm. How exciting is it for us to be back at school for just 3 weeks until our extended Winter Break? Since this is a short month, we have jampacked this month with tons of learning, assessing, teaching, and fun for our students. We need your help getting them to school everyday so that they can participate in all of our activities.
MAKE SURE YOUR STUDENTS ARE HERE ALL WEEK!
- ATTENDANCE INCENTIVES: The month of December we are asking that your students are at school EVERY DAY! Our students thrive when they have consistent school routines. Research suggests that missing anywhere from 1-2 days each month can cause students to get off-track academically and lead to ineffective social habits.
- ACADEMIC GOALS: CONVERSATIONS ABOUT LEARNING GOALS! Remember to have conversations with your students about what they are working on in class. This month our students in grades 2 and 4 will be taking gifted screeners to identify if they demonstrate traits for Gifted services. Please encourage them to do their best.
- PLAYGROUND EXPECTATIONS: Please reiterate with your students the importance of playground safety! This remains an area where we must continuously reinforce our expectations.
One of our major goals this year is to improve our attendance and reduce the amount of students who are chronically absent. Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10% of the school year for any reason. Although sometimes we may excuse an absence due illness or a family matter, those days still count towards missed instructional time and can therefore be calculated toward Chronic Absenteeism. Please continue to make sure your student is at school EVERY DAY!
Thank you,
Principal Goodwine
