In honor of Labor Day, the Pershing Middle School campus will be closed on Monday, September 2. School will resume on Tuesday, September 3. I would also like to take a moment, in honor of the Labor Day Holiday, to thank the entire Pershing Middle School faculty and staff for all of their efforts to provide a warm, welcoming, and academically rigorous learning environment for students. Pershing Middle School is a great learning community in large part because of their efforts! We love our Panther teachers and staff!!

I also wanted to take a moment to thank all the families that attended our Back to School Night on Thursday, August 29. As I often share, one of the best parts of working at Pershing Middle School is the strong family involvement and this year has proven no exception. We are halfway to reaching our goal of raising $30,000 but there are only two weeks left to raise funds for the Panther Pledge. This is our Foundation's main fundraiser and all donations go directly to supporting students and creating enriching experiences for them (check out the pcitures below highlighting just some of the activities and items the Panther Pledge funded last school year)! Even if you are not able to donate the full $75, every little bit helps, so please make your donation today and feel free to share the link with family and friends.

A reminder that the grade level that raises the most donations will receive two weeks of early release for lunch! Right now our sixth graders have taken an early lead in the number of donations.

A reminder to our seventh and eight grade famileis that the money raised from the Panther Pledge impacts you directly as well. Without these funds our site will not be able to offer a 7th Grade Experience or the multiple end of year activities we host for our promoting 8th graders. What is the Panther Pledge?

The Panther Pledge is a suggest $75 donation that helps fund our Pershing Parent Foundation. If every student was able to raise $75 our Foundation would meet their fundraising goal for the entire year!

Your entire donation other than any PayPal fees goes directly to the Foundation, and helps pay for:

PARENT REPRESENTATIVES NEEDED FOR SSC AND SGT

We are looking for family and/or community members that are interested in serving on the Pershing School Site Council (SSC), the Pershing Site Governance Team (SGT), or both. These are two-year elected positions. We have 3 parent member vacancies on our SSC and 4 parent member vacancies on our SGT. CLICK HERE for more details and to complete the interest form. APPLE TOURS 8TH GRADE EAST COAST TRIP INFORMATIONAL MEETING ON THURSDAY

Apple Tours will be hosting a zoom informational meeting for a June, 2025 historical east coast trip to Washington D.C., New York City and Boston on Thursday, September 5th at 6:00pm (this trip is for 8th grade students only…the company will not have spaces for any parent chaperones to attend). NATIONAL FOOD BANK DAY IS THIS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6

Pershing Middle School is partnering with the San Diego Food Drive and will be hosting a food drive throughout the school year. The first wave of the food drive kicks off this Friday, Sept 6 on National Food Bank Day. Students can bring human and/or pet food donations to the front office or Room 305

WEDNESDAYS ARE PANTHER SPIRIT DAYS!

Every Wednesday is a Panther Spirit Day. Students are encouraged to wear Panther gear or Pershing colors (maroon, grey, black or white). Our online store is now open, check out all the latest deals and ensure your child is ready for our spirit days!

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WEDNESDAY OFFICE HOURS

Pershing offers an extended window of time every Wednesday from 12:45-1:20 PM where students can seek individual help with a specific classroom teacher. The expectation is any student who has a C or lower in any class will attend office hours weekly for that class until the grade is a B or higher.

If your child struggled in a class like Math 7 last year, we encourage you to proactively send them to Math 8 office hours with their teacher now, BEFORE the first grading window closes, so they can can stay on track and make sure they are building a solid foundation for this school year. Office hours is a great opportunity for students to get the extra support they need and we encourage families to have their child(ren) take advantage of this opportunity.

TENNIS LESSON AVAILABLE AFTER SCHOOL

Tryouts for Basketball and Track and Field start this week!

CLICK HERE to view the Middle School Athletics Tryout and Practice Schedule. All tryouts for Pershing students are currently slated for Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Students trying out may change in the Boys and Girls Locker Rooms and then wait in the lunch arbor for their coaches to arrive.

It was great to see so many at back to school night making their Panther Pledges 'live' at our 'self-service' Pledge Table in between the whirlwind of visiting Classrooms! Thank You!
