Mental Health First Aid Certification
Mental Health First Aid is a course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. It takes the fear and hesitation out of starting these conversations by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address a potential mental health or substance use challenge.
The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. When more people are equipped with the tools to start a dialogue, more people can get the help they need. Mental Health First Aiders are a vital link, connecting those experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge with appropriate support.

Recorded Sessions
Interested in learning more about Zero Textbook Course Marking and Open Educational Resources at JWU?
Please enjoy the recording of the session Independent Institutions Weigh in on Course Marking at the Northeast OER Summit featuring Katrina Herold, Director of the JWU Center for Teaching & Learning.
In this panel, Katrina is joined by:
Lindsey Gwozdz, New England Board of Higher Education
Alexandria Lattner, New England College
Kevin Railey, Saint John Fisher University
Katie Rybakova, Thomas College
Abstract:
Our session is intended to help spread awareness of the actual processes of course marking, particularly for independent institutions which are sometimes left on the periphery of Open Education. Through the voices of four independent institution representatives, participants will get to hear an overview of the experiences of why and how course marking was implemented and what it means for their students. Each panelist will touch on successes and challenges and their unique workflows developed over the last year of this initiative as well as technology, staffing, and marketing considerations. The session is open to all levels of attendees. Lindsey will start the session off with a brief definition of course marking to ensure that everyone can participate even if they’re not as informed on the topic. We will utilize real-time polling and a shared Google Doc for participants to help us compile a larger and more thorough resource list that we will share back into the community.
