Weekly Update 9
October 10th, 2024
Greetings CityLab and IDEA families,
This week we close out our first quarter. Teachers, I want to thank you publicly for all you do to support our amazing students. We have a short week as we come upon our fall break. Students will be off October 10th, 11th, and 14th. Hopefully we all get a bit of rest and get out to the State Fair of Texas. We do have class officers and this week we have our Senior Lock In on Wednesday. Please see updates below.
A few reminders:
As we strive for excellence in education, we also know the importance of school safety. Students have now received their ID badges. The expectation is they wear them from the time they enter the building in the morning to when they leave at the end of the day. Parents, please ensure that students have ID's on when you drop them off so we can continue to have a smooth intake process. For next week, students may receive a temporary badge if they forget their badge at home. Starting 9/30, a temporary badge will cost $1.00 and a replacement will cost $5.00. Parents, thank you for working with us.

Mientras nos esforzamos por alcanzar la excelencia en la educación, también conocemos la importancia de la seguridad escolar. Los estudiantes ya han recibido sus credenciales de identificación. La expectativa es que los usen desde el momento en que entran al edificio por la mañana hasta que salen al final del día. Padres, asegúrese de que los estudiantes tengan sus identificaciones puestas cuando los dejen para que podamos continuar teniendo un proceso de admisión sin problemas. Para la próxima semana, los estudiantes pueden recibir una credencial temporal si la olvidan en casa. A partir del 30 de septiembre, una insignia temporal costará $1,00 y un reemplazo costará $5,00. Principal for a Day
October 2nd was Dallas ISD’s annual Principal for a Day. We had the honor of welcoming Isabel Corsino, Managing Principal of Pfluger. It was such a great day having Ms. Corsino visit our school and serve as Principal for the Day. She immediately jumped in during morning intake, talked to students, engaged with teachers, supported us at lunch duty, and offered to continue to be part of our wonderful schools. As an Architect, she is a perfect collaborator with our pathways.

Architecture Competition Computers
To keep student's up with the latest technology and give them a leg up in competitions, Mr. Knesnik has started a Donors Choose campaign to buy ten new computers that will run architecture software and allow students to exchange thumb drives. This year the architecture students found our class computers were incompatible with some of the competition requirements. We'd love to have these computers to continue competing next year. Any amount you can donate would be welcome. Thank you so much!
Talking Points
Hello Parents and Guardians,
As we approach the end of the first grading quarter, we want to ensure you have a reliable way to stay in touch with your student’s teachers. At Fannin, we utilize the Talking Points app, a convenient platform for communication between teachers and families.
Through Talking Points, teachers can send important updates such as classwork photos, announcements, and reminders. The app also automatically translates messages into your preferred language for ease of use. Teachers regularly share information regarding student grades, upcoming activities, exams, class expectations, and more.
We encourage you to use this app to ask questions about your child's progress, inquire about grades, or address any concerns you may have. Additionally, responding to teachers’ messages is essential to ensure effective communication. Even a simple thumbs-up or heart lets them know you've received and acknowledged their message.

A medida que nos acercamos al final del primer trimestre de calificaciones, queremos asegurarnos de que tengan una manera confiable de mantenerse en contacto con los maestros de sus hijos. En Fannin, utilizamos la aplicación Talking Points, una plataforma conveniente para la comunicación entre maestros y familias.
A través de Talking Points, los maestros pueden enviar actualizaciones importantes, como fotos del trabajo en clase, anuncios y recordatorios. La aplicación también traduce automáticamente los mensajes al idioma de su preferencia para mayor comodidad.
