MetUp Potluck and Fall Festival this Friday, Nov. 22
Our November MetUp is this Friday, November 22, when we will have our annual schoolwide Potluck! We will be spending quality time together as school community - including a Talent Show! - before we enter the week-long break. For our Potluck, all students are encouraged to contribute as follows:
9th grade: Drinks, silverware, plates, & to go containers
10th grade: Main dishes
11th grade: Appetizers
12th grade: Desserts
Students will be dismissed on Nov. 22 at 1:30pm. Please plan accordingly for student pickup.
Later that same day, our ASB is hosting our SD Met Fall Festival from 4pm-6pm. There will be games and raffles for participants, and families are warmly invited to attend!
Fundraising and Donation Opportunities!
Met PJs - Support the Class of 2025!
The Class of 2025 is doing a fundraiser and we are selling Met PJs! This fundraiser would help our senior class pay for Grad Nite, Prom, and other fun activities we can enjoy.
The Met PJs come in Black/White Plaid, Solid Black, Black/Grey Plaid, and Camo. Both Plaid color combinations will come with SD Met color print and solid Black and Camo PJs will come with a pink print. The graduation year is only available to seniors. ALL orders must be placed by Friday, Nov. 22nd!
We will collect orders through this Google form and accept payments via Venmo, Cashapp, and cash in person.
On behalf of the senior class officers, thank you very much for supporting our fundraiser and we hope you enjoy your PJs!
Met Monday (Nov. 25) and Giving Tuesday (Dec. 3) - Support our Foundation!
Save The Dates! Met Monday is November 25 and Giving Tuesday is December 3. These are the two biggest fundraising days of the year for the SD Met Foundation, and we appreciate your donations, which all go toward supporting student learning and engagement. This year, we are raising money for "Leaving to Learn" field trips, including what we hope will be our first ever college road trip for our junior class in the spring! Other planned Leaving to Learn trips include the performing arts, industry tours, curricular enrichment through museums, and more experiences that benefit every grade level! Your donations will go toward funding buses, entrance and registration fees, and curriculum materials. To make a donation, Click here to donate any amount! Thank you for supporting your students!
Donate to our Biology Project!
Our 9th grade Biology class is developing a interactive installation as a class project! We are looking for donations of materials, including large boxes, old paint brushes (1+ inch), butcher paper, streamers, old bedsheets, and unused PVC pipes. This installation will be part of our School Showcase on Dec. 18, and we are hoping to get donated materials by Friday, Nov. 22. Donation may be dropped off in Ms. Kohmescher's classroom (K202). Thank you for your support!
Exhibitions!
Exhibitions start on December 9!
Exhibitions for this semester will be held over a two-week period beginning December 9 and lasting through December 18. Exhibitions are a powerful conclusion to each student's semester-long internship, and a chance for each student to be celebrated, as well as to have their LTI Project assessed by a panel of adults and peers. As a part of making the Exhibition experience more authentic, we slightly restructured our format this year to enable as many internship mentors as possible to attend their student's Exhibition. In addition, each student's panel will include two teachers and two students who will contribute to assessing the student's presentation. As always, at least one parent/guardian must attend their student's Exhibition, which is why we began reaching out to schedule Exhibitions over a month ago. For 9th graders, the Exhibition format is slightly modified to account for the fact that they started the year in LTI Gateway, and thus had much less time than older students at internships this semester.
If you have any questions about LTI Projects and Exhibitions, please contact your student’s Advisor. We look forward to welcoming you to campus to celebrate your students!
The Fall Exhibition schedule is as follows:

Aspen Challenge Hackathon
In preparation for this year‘s Aspen Challenge, Met students participated in a mini-challenge. Students had forty minutes to design a week-long community project that would serve a group that the students were excited about. Students then shared their ideas with others across our school district and in Boston, which is the other host city of the Aspen Challenge this year. The full Aspen Challenge will begin next semester. Students can reach out to Ms. Kohmescher or Ms. Mann-Deibert for more information.
Art Club and more!
Art Club students made sensory bottles! Met students have the opportunity throughout the week to join many clubs, including: Theater, Community, Pokemon Go, Dungeons & Dragons, Fashion, Met Maker Space, TV & Film Appreciation, and GSA.

Important Facts
Attendance, Absences, Appointments
Good attendance is of the utmost importance for your student's learning. As an independent study school where students only attend their classes three days a week, it is vital that students are on time to EVERY class, EVERY day. Parents/guardians are required to inform our office (619-388-2299 or email Carolyn Dumas at cdumas@sandi.net) if your students will be absent or late. If you wish to request an early dismissal for your student, please notify our office no later than 10am that same day.
Please schedule all medical and dental appointments outside of school hours. We know that appointments can be challenging to get at times, but please do your best to support good attendance for your students so they do not miss any valuable learning at school!
Mental Health Supports
We are supported this year by a mental health clinician from Wellness Together. Our clinician is on campus on Mondays from 8:30 to 3:00. Students who are in need of mental health services may be referred to the clinician for one-on-one support. Please speak with your student's advisor or our counselor, Mr. Moravec, for more information.
Food on Campus
Free School Meals for All!
As part of the State of California's Universal Meals Program, all students in our school district are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch at school. Meals will continue to be "grab and go" bags, and this year we have expanded our menu to include hot lunch options for the first time. If you would like your student to receive free meals at the Met, please sign up by emailing our interim administrative assistant, Carolyn Dumas, at cdumas@sandi.net. Students may also sign themselves up with Carolyn in the office.
Meals may be picked up inside K203 (office). Breakfast is served from 8:00 to 8:25, and lunch is served from 12:10 to 12:25. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, lunch is served from 11:30 to 11:45 for any student who wishes to take a lunch at the end of the Gateway class.

Senior Early Dismissal Policy
As part of supporting our 12th graders in having diverse opportunities for success, the Met has an early dismissal policy for qualified seniors. Students and parents/guardians must submit this Senior Early Dismissal application and await approval by the principal before any early dismissal can begin. Please note that the earliest that seniors may be dismissed is 12:10pm, and early dismissal does not apply on MetUp days (one Friday a month) or other special events that require student attendance until the end of the school day. Please refer to this Senior Early Dismissal Policy document for more details.
Reminders
Federal Impact Aid Form - deadline extended to 11/22
Our Met families can help us secure critical funding by completing the Federal Impact Aid form. This is a friendly reminder to please complete the very short Federal Impact Aid Survey through your PowerSchool Parent Portal by our extended deadline of Friday, November 22. The Federal Impact Aid Survey is critically important for helping our school and district receive funding, and the information is kept confidential.
All students were sent home with a paper form last week to be signed and returned to their advisor. Alternatively, you can complete the form through the PowerSchool Parent Portal as follows:
- Login at https://powerschool.sandi.net/
- Select Forms from the left-hand navigation menu, then select 2024-25 Impact Aid Program Survey Form under Annual Forms.
- Follow the prompts and submit the form. Please be sure a confirmation appears before logging off.
If you need support with submitting this form, please contact Carolyn Dumas at 619-388-2299 or cdumas@sandi.net. Thank you for supporting our school and helping us stay fully funded!
