5th Grade - Youth Equipped to Succeed

Parents can participate in an information session and review of the presentation Monday, February 26 from 6-7 pm at the Professional Development Center, 308 E Brier, Burnet, TX 78611.
The student presentation will occur on Wednesday, February 28th. Parents indicated a preference for their child to attend or not as part of registration. You have been sent an email that provides you with information about which selection was made at enrollment and a way to change your preference if needed. If you desire to change your original selection please do so by February 15th so we have adequate time to prepare for the assembly.
Lost and Found Clean Up
Please claim items from the Lost and Found by Tuesday, February 16th. All items that are unclaimed by that date will be donated.
Attendance Matters
Bertram's ADA for this past week was 94.43%.
ADA stands for Average Daily Attendance and is defined as the total days of student attendance divided by the total days of instruction. "98 IS Great!", so 98% is our goal! We recognize that illnesses and events take place that necesitate absences, however, we do encourage every student to be in school every day he/she is able. Let's work toward 98%!
Notification of Absences
A parent must provide an explanation for any absence within 5 days of the student’s arrival or return to school. The student must submit a note signed by the parent. The campus may accept an email from the parent sent to the school’s attendance clerk, but reserves the right to require a written note. The form below will send an email to Bertram's Attendance Clerk and then the campus will determine whether to classify the absence as excused or unexcused.
This information may also be found on the BCISD website:
From the Counselor
Please have your child check the lost and found. We have a lot of unclaimed jackets and coats that will be donated on February 16. We would love for everyone to be reunited with their warm clothing before then! 😊
Did You Know…
When your child is in high school, they can be denied credit due to absences? This is referred to as the 90% rule, meaning they must be in attendance 90% of the time to receive credit. In high school, there are specific classes that students have to have in order to graduate. When I was a high school counselor, one of the hardest things I had to do was tell a student (and their parents) that they had been denied credit and would have to repeat the class. It did not matter what their grade was in that class, they would be required to retake it…..Attendance Matters!
I know it seems High School is a long way away, so how does attendance affect Bertram Elementary students? According to the Department of Education (see attached article), younger children who have accumulated a lot of absences struggle to read on grade level by the end of 3rd grade. Even more concerning is that these students are four times more likely to dropout of high school than their peers that are more proficient readers. (Click HERE for the article). Attendance Matters!
Of course we all know that students sometimes need to miss school! Please, however, send them as much as possible!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
