VVSD Supt. Dr. Keith Wood’s Update to the Board at the May 12 Meeting
VVSD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Keith Wood provided an update to the Board of Education at the May Regular Meeting. Dr. Wood shared some of the recent celebrations around the District for the special days honoring staff job categories and the dates and times high school graduation and 8th grade promotion.
VVSD Spotlight- Scott Harper, Romeoville HS Physical Education Teacher
Among many other things we celebrate at the end of the school year, we bid a fond farewell to the VVSD Staff Retirement Class of 2025. This year’s class of 50 members departs with combined years of service of over 900 years!
Representing this year’s class in the Spotlight is Romeoville HS Physical Education Teacher and Coach Scott Harper, who is retiring after 32 years with VVSD. Scott is the longest serving teacher in this year’s retirement class. How long is 32 years? It is long enough to give two of his former students the time to become current school principals in VVSD.
Valley View Education Foundation “Nine and Dine” Set for Thu. June 5
The Valley Educational Enrichment Foundation Nine and Dine Golf Outing is fast approaching, and VVEEF would love for you to join in for a day of golf for a great cause. Help VVEEF support the staff and students of Valley View School District on Thu. June 5 at Bolingbrook Golf Club. Shotgun start for the 9 hole scramble will be at 2 pm, with dinner and awards to follow. Raffles and on-course games and contests will all be part of the fun. Spots fill up very fast, so organize your foursome and be ready to register when the site goes live for golfers on Mon. May 5. There are dinner only and sponsorship opportunities available now.

VVSD Student Online Enrollment for 2025-25 School Year
Online enrollment for all returning 2025-26 students and students entering kindergarten is now open.
To be eligible to register for kindergarten, a student must be five years old on or before Sept 1, 2025, and the family must live with VVSD boundaries.
Families of current VVSD students are able to register via their Infinite Campus Parent Portal account while families new to the District will be able to register online. Click here for more details about the enrollment process.
A Reminder Regarding Required Proof of Dental Examinations
Per Illinois Law (Child Health Examination Code, 77 ILL. Adm. Code 665), all children in kindergarten, 2nd, 6th, and 9th grades of any public, private, or parochial school shall have a dental examination. Each child is required to present proof of School Dental Examination or a Dental Examination Waiver by a dentist prior to May 15 of the school year.
The Will County Community Health Center provides regular exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, fillings, extractions, and education to understand proper dental care.

Notice Regarding VVSD Paid Student Transportation for the 2025-2026 School Year
The application period for paid student transportation for the 2025-26 school year will open Tue. July 1 and will close Thu. July 31. Seating is limited on a first-come, first served basis and paid transportation students may be removed from routes due to changes in capacity limits. Paid student transportation applications will close for the month of August for the 2025-26 school year and will re-open Tue Sept. 2, pending availability.
Upon notification of acceptance for paid student transportation Visa, MasterCard or Discover card payments for full year or first semester can be accepted over the phone at 815-886-6686 between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm Monday through Friday.
Paid student transportation rates are as follows:
One student- $575 full year ($287.50 per semester - 2nd semester payment due no later than December 12, 2025.
Two or more students $1150 in full ($575 per semester - 2nd semester payment due no later than December 12, 2025.
Pro-rated Paid Transportation will not be available.

VVSD Buildings Operations and Maintenance Offering Summer Job Opportunities
VVSD’s facilities operations has several summer temporary job opportunities currently available. These positions are for eight hours per day, five days a week, late spring through summer. For most positions, the hours are 6:30 am- 3 pm, Monday-Friday with starting pay at $15 per hour. Additional dates may include VVSD’s fall and spring breaks, as needed.
The positions being offered will assist in a variety of functions under the direction of supervisors, including general maintenance, grounds, painting, moving, carpentry, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other duties in support of District-wide operations.

VVSD Seeking Guest Teachers and Substitute Personnel
Illinois legislation allows individuals with 60 hours of college credit to apply for a short-term substitute teacher license. The DuPage Regional Office of Education offers the required training, which must be completed prior to licensure. Topics include curriculum, classroom management techniques, school safety, and more.

VVSD Nutrition Services Shares Information Regarding USDA SUN Bucks Summer Program
SUN Bucks is a nutrition program authorized by the United States Department of Agriculture to help families buy food for their school-aged children during the summer. SUN Bucks 2025 will provide a $120 annual benefit to eligible children, via an Electronic Benefit Transfer issuance by the Illinois Department of Human Services. Complete information on this program is available on the IDHS Summer EBT Webpage.
Illinois Summer EBT information is also available via the customer help line at (833) 621-0737. The agency will be able to assist with such things as the card distribution timeline, usage, allowable expenses, and lost or misplaced cards.

Kudos for Noteworthy Achievements
VVSD is sending seven student-athletes to the IHSA Badminton Championships in DeKalb Fri. & Sat. May 16-18. Romeoville HS will be represented by four students. Competing in the singles competition are 12th grade student Claire An and Samira Gallardo, while 12th grader Paola Salazar and 11th grader Alexa Jimenez will team up in the doubles competition. Three Bolingbrook HS students qualified for the Badminton State Finals. The doubles team of 12thg graders Issa Andora and Katherine Pajel, and 10th grader Delaina Rowland, who qualified in singles.

On Fri. May 3 the A.Vito Martinez Middle School Band performed in the Stanley Field Great Hall of Chicago’s Field Museum in front of Maximo the Titanosaur. The AVM band is directed by Lisa Garza.
Installation of the playground equipment is underway in the courtyard of VVSD's early childhood addition at Oak View Elementary.
Have you ever wondered what you should do with those Amazon boxes that pile up? Romeoville HS art students know that you use that cardboard to create art. This gramophone is the creation of RHS 11 grade student Bernice Cabral.
Quick Notes
The next regular meeting of the Valley View Board of Education will be held Monday, June 16 at John J. Lukancic Middle School, 725 W. Normantown Rd., Romeoville IL. This meeting will begin at 6:30 pm, at which time the Board will vote to move to Closed Executive Session. The Public Session of the meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

VVSD offers a school-based health center for students to receive immunizations, school physicals, and sports physicals. The VVSD School-Based Health Center operated by the Will County Health Department is located at Brooks Middle School, but is open to all VVSD students. Call 630-679-3844 for an appointment today. The VVSD School-Based Health Center also provides mental health services for students who attend Brooks Middle School.

Clean Up Week Poster Contest - Draw a picture that shows how you feel about making Romeoville a better-looking place to live. A winner will be selected from grades Pre-K through 5th (ages 4 and up.) Romeoville residents only. The winner will be selected and then notified by their teacher. The winning student will plant a tree with their class at their school. Drop off submissions by Friday, April 18 at the Romeoville Recreation Center, Village Hall or the Police Department after hours. All poster submissions will be displayed at the Recreation Center from May 1-14. White Oak Library District
The White Oak Library District operates branch libraries in Romeoville, Crest Hill, and Lockport. We have a lot of fun and free activities for tweens and teens, and you can check out our program offerings here. If you still have little ones at home, make sure to check out our free morning programs geared towards pre-school aged kids. We also have books, magazines, movies, and video games you can borrow. We even have a ton of virtual content you can borrow right from home. Check our website for all that we have to offer.

DuPage Township offers specific financial assistance and food security programs. Financial assistance is administered through the office, 241 Canterbury Lane, Bolingbrook. Romeoville Community Pantry
The Romeoville Community Pantry is a community service organization operated by volunteers in the Romeoville community. The Pantry serves anyone who lives in Romeoville, Bolingbrook, Lockport, Plainfield, Lemont, and Crest Hill. The pantry is open every Saturday 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Clients are asked to provide a current photo ID and proof of residence in order to participate in our services. The location is inside the United Presbyterian Church located at 2 Belmont Drive in Romeoville. Northern Illinois Food Bank
The Northern Illinois Food Bank is conducting mobile food banks and micro pantries in the vicinity in the near future. Please bring bags or boxes. Micro Pantries are designed to allow anonymous food pick-up for those in need and a drop-off point for those who wish to help. Micro pantries are accessible 24 hours a day. Midwest University Dental Institute
Join the Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine–Illinois for a day of FREE dental care and education for children ages 5 to 15 Tue. April 1 - Fri. April 4. Free dental care may include oral exams, fluoride, and possible x-rays. Services will be provided by appointment only, by dental students supervised by our faculty dentists at the Midwestern University Dental Institute. Plan on being at the event for approximately one to two hours depending on treatment provided. In order to ensure that your child receives treatment during the event, you must arrive at the scheduled time. A legal guardian of the child must be present at all times during the event.
