Thanks For Giving Back
Shoppers at Giant Made a Difference
We are excited to announce that KCSD is a recipient of GIANT's Feeding School Kids Initiative! Thanks to GIANT's support, we received nearly $5,500 to help eliminate hunger in our schools. Thank you to all who rounded up at the register. Together, we are ensuring students have access to the nutrition they need to grow and fuel their education.
KHS Student Shines at the CCAA Student Art Show
Takes First Place
Grade 11 student Ally Vakil placed first at the Chester County Art Association County wide student art show in West Chester for Best 3d/Sculpture. Ally is a student in Jodi Davidson’s Ceramics Class!
Plant Biology and Agricultural Sustainability at New Garden
Exploring Hydrophonics
Mr. Danny Hess’s STEM classroom at New Garden Elementary School is one of the most exciting learning spaces in the building. Recently, students from 4th grade began learning about plant biology and agricultural sustainability using hydroponics. According to one student, hydroponics is “the process of growing plants in sand, gravel or liquid, with added nutrients but without soil.” These students are nearly ready to harvest approximately 100 lettuce plants that they have been caring for diligently. These lettuce plants will be donated to the KACS (Kennett Area Community Service) Food Cupboard.
Middle School Students Look to the Future
Enrichment Students Explore Careers
The 8th grade gifted enrichment students have been exploring and investigating potential future careers. They’ve considered their own interests and aptitudes and dug into questions like “How many years of schooling does this require?” and “What does the job market look like for this industry five years from now?” Now they’re interviewing experts in their fields:
- Forensic scientists
- An anesthesiologist
- A pastry chef
- A wedding planner
- A federal background investigator
- A speech pathologist
- And a pediatric trauma surgeon, among others!
They hope to conclude their research projects not only with a better understanding of a field they may have been considering, but with new knowledge about careers they may not have considered before.
Thank you, Mrs. Laura King and Mrs. Keer, for connecting our students to these awesome professionals!
Greenwood Honors Autism Acceptance Month
The Autism Acceptance Tree Was Created with Student Statements
To help increase the inclusivity of autistic individuals within our school, each Greenwood student wrote a statement about how they can be more inclusive or show inclusivity within Greenwood on their infinity symbol. The tree was then constructed by Greenwood’s own Mrs. Thiboutot.
The Autism Acceptance Tree is crowned with infinity symbols, an autism awareness and acceptance symbol. The infinity symbol represents the infinite possibilities of autistic people and acceptance of the neurodiversity spectrum, including autism, and the embracing connections within the autism community.
Bancroft Students Learn Health and Safety
Health and Physical Education Classes Keep Students Moving and Thinking
In Health and PE classes, students have been making the most of the beautiful spring weather! The Spring Mileage Club helps students meet their personal fitness goals with more time to enjoy activity outside.
Physical Education classes finished an exciting basketball unit, too, where students worked on skills like dribbling, shooting, and teamwork. Next is the hockey unit, where students will learn the fundamentals of the game. Better weather also means more opportunities to exercise and move outside!
Third-grade students recently focused on learning about the heart, where they had the chance to listen to their heartbeats using stethoscopes. Across all grade levels, students are discussing the important topic of the dangers of drugs and alcohol, exploring ways to make healthy, informed choices.
While our students learn their math, reading, and science, they also explore ways to live long and productive lives!
What's Happening
Fifth Grade Parent Night Is Wednesday
Kennett Middle School is hosting a 5th Grade Parent Night on Wednesday, April 23rd at 6:00 PM at Kennett Middle School. The evening is an enjoyable and informative way for new middle school parents to learn about their child's school day, courses, and more for the 26 - 26 school year. Students may attend, but they are not required to do so. A welcome letter was sent to all parents of incoming grade 6 students. Be sure to refer to the letter before attending the welcome night from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. Students from grade 5 are visiting the middle school this week as well!
