Notes From the Office
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. It is a framework used at the Primary to promote positive behavior and create a more productive and inclusive learning environment. PBIS is based on the idea that teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors is more effective than solely focusing on punishing negative behaviors.
Key components of PBIS include:
Prevention: PBIS focuses on preventing behavioral issues by establishing clear expectations for behavior and creating a positive school climate.
Teaching: Students are explicitly taught the expected behaviors through direct instruction, modeling, and practice.
Reinforcement: Positive behaviors are reinforced through a system of rewards and recognition, such as praise, small incentives, or privileges.
Data-Based Decision Making: Data is collected to track behavior trends, identify areas of concern, and make informed decisions about interventions.
Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS): PBIS often utilizes a multi-tiered approach, with different levels of support based on individual student needs. Tier 1 is universal support for all students, while Tier 2 and Tier 3 provide more targeted interventions for students with specific behavior challenges.
The ultimate goal of PBIS is to create a positive and safe school environment where students can succeed academically and socially. It has been shown to be effective in reducing disruptive behaviors, improving student engagement, and fostering a more inclusive and respectful school culture.

Thank you again to Shana Kretchman for helping us this week and to Megan Gillis who has volunteered to help us the entire year. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Label Everything
Our lost and found is beginning to fill up and it is only the second week of school. If items are labeled, we can connect the item with the student. I will repeat this numerous times throughout the school year, please label your child's personal items. This includes coats, sweaters, water bottles, lunch boxes, etc. I already have a small collection of items that have been "lost" within the building.
