Inglewood Primary School
NEWSLETTER No 04 - 21 March 2024
Our Mission:
Learning to think, to do, to be
Ako ki te whakaaro, ako ki te mahi, ako kia ora ai te mauri
Our Vision: To provide a teaching and learning environment where of those involved: demonstrate respect, expect the best, achieve through opportunity, communicate actively & feel good and safe
The weather has been delightful recently and it has been so great to see all of our tamariki making the most of this. We have had classes visiting and learning down our nature trail, we have had many children enjoying the new surface on the pump track.
This week has been particularly busy with our year 7 and 8 classes on camp at Te wera Lodge. Feedback, so far, has been great with many kids talking about their highlights being the sight of the teachers zooming down the mudslide.
I have been really pleased with our children and families who have been following our rule of walking their wheels when at the front of the school before and after school. This helps us to ensure that everyone is safe when coming to school or heading home. A big thank you to Mr Andrew Georgeson for his help in getting road marking lines down to help with visual support for our wheelers.
We are working on options to increase safety and ease of access to bikes and scooters. We encourage anyone bringing their own bikes to school to ensure that they have a lock also. We are looking to have a temporary bike rack placed on the upper field for those bikers who regularly use the pump track. Having a bike lock would be increasingly necessary in this case.

It is basically an electric car challenge, where teams are able to build their own car and race it in 3 challenges at the end of the year. Launch day was last weekend and our keen team of Cooper, Amy, Caelan and Blake went along for some design challenges. In the coming months the team will be looking for sponsorship and spare parts. Good luck team!

Seasons for Growth
Throughout 2024, we will be offering the Seasons for Growth Programme again at IPS. This programme is targeted at students who have experienced change, loss or grief in their lives. This may include parents separating, the death of a loved one or other significant changes to a child's life that may have had an impact on them. This programme is run at IPS during school hours, with a group of 3-5 students at a time, all of similar age.
If you would like your child to be involved in a group during 2024, please email wendy.williams@inglewood.school.nz and I will send you an enrolment form. If you have any questions or require further information, please don't hesitate to contact me via email. Brochures which include more information are also available.
Environmental Sustainability and Management
Our students learn about environmental issues as part of the curriculum. Inglewood Primary School has a multi-disciplinary approach to education for sustainability, which encourages:
- understanding of the environment
- awareness of environmental issues
- concern for the environment
- personal responsibility for the environment.
Inglewood Primary School is part of the Enviroschools programme. We also have an Enviro Team club that students and staff can join.
Waste management
Effective waste management is essential to maintaining a clean and healthy school. We teach students to be responsible for their own waste management as part of our education for sustainability. Inglewood Primary School seeks to minimise negative effects on the environment by encouraging our school community to:
- dispose of waste in the appropriate bin
- reduce waste brought to school
- use long-lasting products such as drink bottles and lunch boxes
- recycle glass, paper, cardboard, and plastic
- collect organic waste that is used to feed farm animals.
