Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families--
We had a really good week back following Thanksgiving. As I was out in classrooms and observing students in action, it was evident that they were focused and engaged in their learning. These three weeks in December are just as significant as most weeks. It’s easy for the kids to start thinking about the next break for Christmas, so our teachers work very hard to keep the learning engaging and on pace. Our standard is to maintain our focus and energy right up to the Holiday break. We also are giving our students a lot of reminders and encouragement to get any missing assignments or late work taken care of before the break. While it’s not the end of the semester, any significant ‘break’ in the instructional cycle naturally causes students to lose a bit of focus. The fewer ‘loose ends’ students carry into January, the better they will be poised to finish the semester at their highest level.
Our students are going strong in our winter athletics and activities. Our first competitions have already begun in some cases. What always excites me is the number of students involved in the extra-curricular opportunities happening. We currently have approximately 600 students participating in winter sports, guard, cheer, dance, robotics, and more. You can add quite a few more that participate in our less formal clubs and activities. Even the one-off events like our very successful Blanket Night draws dozens of our students, and often times, their families as well. I’m always encouraging our students to find another way to connect with others in our building!
Have you been wondering about the massive dirt-work happening next door to Ridgeline? As you may or may not know, the property purchased for Ridgeline was owned by the local Gun Club. Total acreage was 100. Ridgeline is built on 60 acres and the remaining 40 is where you see dirt being moved. This is all part of the ecological clean up work to mitigate the years of lead shot that was deposited on the ground. Our Ridgeline site was beyond the shot range and did not require mitigation. The remaining property is being cleaned and prepped for future use. It is still owned by CVSD and the future of the property is unknown at this time, but it could be utilized for another school building of some kind. We’ll have to wait and see what the next 5-10 years will bring.
Our district is working toward a cell phone policy revision. This includes a community focus group and an opportunity for input from all via a survey. Please take a moment and quickly complete the survey below. Thank you!
Parent Drivers: If you come from Liberty Lake and typically take the first entrance on the East edge of campus, please consider taking advantage of this opportunity for Morning Drop-off of your students… Instead of taking the first right and entering the roundabout and valet line, proceed to the Last entrance off the East lane. This is also known as the Bus Loop. In the A.M. our busses are all here and gone by 7:25. Any time AFTER 7:25 you are encouraged to use the bus loop to drop your student at the South entrance. It’s VERY handy! Those that know about it, get on and off campus very quickly and on time.
Do you ever check your students school account for fees? Probably not… Our system (except lunch) doesn’t have an automated notification tool at this time. So often, you’re not even aware a school fee has been assigned. Please take a moment to log in and check fees here: https://www.cvsd.org/apps/pages/payments
For AP Testing: If your student has committed to taking one or more AP exam(s) in May of 2025. As discussed in previous communication each AP test has an associated fee of $100. If your family is eligible for the Free/Reduced Lunch Program a reduced fee is applied. Fees have been added to your student(s) account. We are asking that AP exam fees are paid by February 3rd. Fees can be paid at the RHS business office or online using the following link. As communicated by AP teachers, testing decisions needed to be finalized on November 15th, 2024. If your student has changed their mind and would no longer wish to take the exam a refund of $60 will be issued. Testing changes must be made prior to March 15th, 2025 to be eligible for the partial refund. No refunds will be issued after March 15th. https://www.cvsd.org/apps/pages/payments
If you’re out and about this weekend, especially if you’re in the mood for holiday shopping, come by Ridgeline and buy your gifts from the vendors at our annual Craft and Vendor Fair. Hosted by the Ridgeline Band Boosters, this event is a huge source of revenue that directly supports hundreds of our students who participate in the Regiment!
Check out the great things happening at Ridgeline and stay informed by reading the Falcon Flyer every week!
Make it a great weekend! --Mr. Hardt
